Max Aarons linked with Everton move

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Norwich City defender Max Aarons this summer, acting as a potential blow to the Canaries.

The Lowdown: Aarons a key man for Norwich

Norwich are back in the Premier League after a title-winning Championship campaign, with a number of players standing out.

Aarons was again a strong performer for Daniel Farke’s side, starting 45 of his team’s 46 league games and registering two goals and two assists.

The Latest: Everton linked with move

A worrying update has emerged from a Norwich perspective, however, with 90min claiming that Everton are eyeing up a move for the 21-year-old this summer, adding that there is an ‘open line of communication’ between the two clubs.

Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries is also considered an option at right-back as Rafa Benitez looks to make new signings at Goodison Park.

The £19.8m-rated Aarons is described as a ‘long-term target’ for Everton, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2024.

The Verdict: Potential blow for Canaries

Norwich have already lost the influential Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa, so it would be galling to see Aarons move on as well this summer. The youngster has been hailed for “some outstanding performances” by Jon Newsome in an interview with Football League World.

Farke must do all he can to keep hold of the right-back, who offers so much along the flank both in terms of attacking quality and defensive work. He had an average of 1.8 clearances per game in the league last season, illustrating his defensive output.

If Aarons does end up leaving, it is vital that the money from his sale is spent wisely, ensuring that Norwich enhance their chances of avoiding another immediate relegation back to the Championship.

In other news, Norwich are reportedly set to make an improved bid for one player. Find out who it is here.

Everton transfer update on Demiral

Everton are reportedly leading the race to sign Merih Demiral in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Everton need centre-back

The Goodison Park faithful certainly need to invest in their defence if they have the ambition to qualify for European competition next season, given that they conceded no fewer than 48 goals in the Premier League in the last campaign.

A new centre-back would go a long way towards resolving that, and would give the Merseyside club another handy option alongside the likes of Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.

The Latest: Everton lead Demiral race

As per Calciomercato, the Toffees are ‘ahead of others’ in the race to sign Demiral, who reportedly wants to leave Juventus.

Both Atalanta and AS Roma are also in the hunt for his signature, but the Old Lady will not sell him for anything less than €40m (£34.3m).

The Verdict: Sign him quickly

Even though Turkey went out at the group stages at Euro 2020, Demiral performed very well for his country at times, averaging a mammoth 6.7 clearances, as well as 1.7 interceptions and 1.3 tackles a game, while also winning 4.3 of his duels per match (Sofascore).

Given that all eyes have been on the tournament, he is likely to have grabbed the attention of other clubs in addition to the likes of Atalanta and Roma, meaning that the Blues may need to sign him quickly.

At six-feet-two-inches tall, Demiral should have no problems at all in coping with both the physical and aerial demands of the Premier League, and at just 23 years of age, he will only get better.

Nonetheless, if given the chance, EFC should be all over a deal for the big central defender.

No Campeonato Catarinense, a Chapecoense receberá o Criciúma no próximo sábado.

TEST DEBUT: Still awaited
ODI DEBUT: Still awaitedBIOGRAPHY (April 2002)Promising Academy all-rounder Tom Benade is fortunate to have a second chance after suffering an error that was not his fault. Having been omitted from the original CFX Academy intake for 2002 due to an administrative error, he was offered a place when Hamilton Masakadza withdrew to go to university in South Africa, and he has seized the opportunity with both hands.Tom thinks his surname was originally Dutch, but more recently his family came from South Africa. His father and uncles used to play the game at school level, and Tom first found his interest in the game when they coached him as a youngster, along with his older and younger brothers, when they played with a tennis ball in the back yard. He grew up in Mutoroshanga in northern Mashonaland, where his family still lives, his father having a career in the mining industry. He first attended Barwick School at Mvurwi, playing for the colts team in Grade Three, and then moved to Bryden Country School near Chegutu. He was in the school first team for two years; his best bowling performance was four for 30, bowling left-arm spin, and with the bat 69 not out. He also represented Midlands in the national primary schools cricket week and attended trials for the national Under-13 team.He moved on to Lomagundi College for his high-school years, where he also learned to bowl seamers as there was an urgent need for one in the team. He has kept up his spin bowling, though, and still considers it the main string to his bow, although he can still bowl well in both styles. Here he remembers taking five for 40 against St John’s College as his best bowling performance and scoring 79 not out against Prince Edward School, his highest score in any class of cricket. He was selected for the Mashonaland Under-16 team and so improved as time went on that he reached the national Under-19 team in 2001, although without much success. At school he shared a room with Sean Ervine, who left school at the end of 2000 to attend the CFX Academy, and he encouraged Tom to apply for a position in 2002.Then came the error that almost saw Tom miss out on a place in the Academy. According to Tom, he left his application for the Academy with the manager of Harare Sports Club, who temporarily went abroad, leaving it with his secretary to pass it on to the Zimbabwe Cricket Union in September – and she failed to do so. When the mistake was discovered, it was too late. But Tom was reprieved when Masakadza withdrew, and came into the Academy after missing the first two Logan Cup matches. He had been working for his father, running a store and learning about mining, and planning to go overseas for a year, when the news of his reprieve came through.Tom had played winter cricket for the Maribou Club at Mutoroshanga, when he averaged 30 with the bat, and also a few matches for Harare Sports Club when in town. His best performances remain 79 not out – he has yet to score a century – and five wickets in an innings, but his determination and all-round ability in putting in useful performances when they are needed have been obvious.Tom names Rory Ervine, father of Sean, as the coach who has helped him the most over the years in both batting and bowling, and at the Academy Dave Houghton. As a batsman he is strongest on the off side, enjoying the drive and the cut. Given the choice, he would like to bat at number five or six in the order, but with specialist batsmen at the Academy he has usually batted in the lower middle order. He has opened the innings on occasion. As a seamer he generally moves the ball into the right-hander, and as a spinner has developed a useful `slider’, along with an inswinger and arm ball. He still considers his spin to be his main bowling style, ahead of his seamers. He likes to field in the region between point and cover.Cricket heroes: Viv Richards and Sachin Tendulkar.Toughest opponents: Raymond Price and Craig Evans so far.Personal ambitions: "Definitely to get my first century! To get into the Zimbabwe A side in the next year or so."Proudest achievement so far: "In 2000, in the Lomagundi first team, we played Churchill. We made 150 all out and I had to bowl the last over when they needed three runs to win. I kept them down and we won the game by one run."Best friends in cricket: Sean Ervine, Stuey Matsikenyeri.Other qualifications: Six O-levels, Pitman’s accounts and computers.Other sports: First-team rugby for Lomagundi and Mashonaland; hockey.Outside interests: Fishing, especially spear-fishing, and going to the beach.Views on cricket: "Regarding this quota system coming into Zimbabwe, I think people should be picked on merit."

QPR interested in Josh Windass

Queens Park Rangers are interested in a deal to bring Josh Windass to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Athletic, who claimed that Mark Warburton is keen on a reunion with his former Glasgow Rangers midfielder ahead of next season, with the 58-year-old thought to be lining up a bid for the Sheffield Wednesday ace in the summer transfer window.

Last month, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon revealed that Darren Moore’s side will be demanding a fee of £5m in order to part with the attacking midfielder this summer, a price which appears to have ruled both Birmingham City and Millwall out of a move.

Warburton would love him

Windass was impressive last season despite playing for a Wednesday team who finished rock bottom of the Championship table, while the midfielder has also played under Warburton previously. Should QPR go on to get a deal over the line for the 27-year-old this summer, he would be an addition the Rs boss would surely love.

While it is true that the £1.8m-rated man did not feature all that much under Warburton at Rangers, Windass nevertheless made an impression during his 18 appearances under the 58-year-old, scoring one goal and providing four assists for his teammates.

However, it is fair to say that the midfielder has developed as a player since his time in Scotland, something which is evident in his returns for Wednesday last season.

Indeed, over his 41 Championship appearances for Darren Moore’s side in 2020/21, the £10,000-per-week man scored nine goals, registered six assists and created seven big chances for his teammates, as well as taking 1.9 shots and making 0.7 key passes per game.

These metrics saw the man dubbed an “explosive” player by his footballer father Dean earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.80, ranking him as Wednesday’s seventh-best performer in the second tier last season.

As such, with Warburton undoubtedly hoping to build a squad in the summer transfer window which is capable of going on to mount a promotion push next season, the potential signing of Windass would appear to provide the 58-year-old and his team with a significant boost to their chances of going on to achieve this feat, leading us to believe that the midfielder would be a fantastic addition in west London.

West Ham sweating on Lukasz Fabianski

Speaking to the press (via football.london), West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed the latest injury news on Lukasz Fabianski heading into their last game of the season against Southampton at the London Stadium.

The Lowdown: Fabianski missing vs West Brom

The Poland international missed West Ham’s 3-1 victory against WBA at The Hawthorns in midweek after suffering a knee injury in the warm-up, with Darren Randolph having to take his place.

Since then, Moyes and co have been sweating on the fitness of Fabianski heading into today’s match, where 10,000 Hammers supporters will be allowed back at the stadium in attendance.

The Latest: Fabianski could miss Southampton

The 36-year-old is now a doubt for the Saints clash as a result, with manager Moyes providing the latest on his state and confirming that West Ham face a late decision.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-rumours-and-gossip-two-electric-boogaloo-copy/” title=”West Ham updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“I don’t know yet,” the manager explained to football.london when asked about the goalkeeper’s chances of playing this afternoon.

“We will see, I don’t think it’s quite as bad as we thought at the time but whether he is available to play will genuinely be a last-minute call really.”

While Fabianski could miss the game depending on a late call, two players who will definitely miss the clash are Arthur Masuaku (knee) and Manuel Lanzini (hip).

The Verdict: Moyes sweating…

While Randolph arguably held his own against West Brom, making three saves from inside the box and managing a solid 6.9 SofaScore rating, West Ham would surely want one of their more experienced first team regulars back in the starting XI.

Fabianski has been a mainstay this season, starting 34 Premier League matches, with Moyes recently heralding him as ‘excellent’ for his recent form as the Irons chase a European qualification spot (Independent.ie).

West Ham only need a point from today’s clash to ensure that they’re in the Europa League for 2021/22, and having Fabianski back between the sticks would come as a big boost. However, it looks increasingly likely that Randolph may be needed once more as the Hammers seek to finish an excellent season with the high of securing European football.
