Leeds fans slam Jack Clarke after being dragged off at half time versus Stoke

[ad_pod ]

Jack Clarke is yet again the topic of debate among Leeds fans after a rather poor showing against Stoke on Tuesday evening.

The 18-year-old was dragged off at half time with the Whites 2-0 down in the Carabao Cup, ultimately receiving a match rating of 5 from Yorkshire Evening Post.

He struggled down the left-hand side and after initial concerns were expressed about his loan spell, supporters have now openly criticised his play and attitude.

Leeds were able to come back and score twice before losing on penalties but the teenager’s display was questionable according to some supporters on Twitter.

One said that he’d be lucky to play ten games this season as another stated that the winger wasn’t performing at all.

A further individual claimed that he thought Clarke was disinterested whilst his mentality was also slammed by one fan.

Clarke earned a move to Tottenham during the summer but has struggled for opportunities after returning to Elland Road on loan.

He is yet to feature in the Championship and has been restricted to two outings in the League Cup, one of which he featured at right wing-back.

Leeds defender Ben White cuts a dejected figure after sloppy goal is conceded

[ad_pod ]

Leeds have been impressive this season but against Swansea on Saturday, they failed to attain any points for the first time this term.

Once again they dominated, achieving 61.9% of the possession and having 21 shots.

However, they conceded a devastating late goal that meant they relinquished their lead at the top of the Championship table.

It was a sloppy strike to concede as the Whites didn’t clear their lines with Wayne Routledge then somehow finding the back of the net.

For the Leeds players, it was obviously bitterly disappointing but one man was more dejected than anyone else.

That happened to be the imperious Ben White who despite his defensive efforts couldn’t prevent Leeds from conceding.

In the image above, you can see White sink to the floor as Routledge wheels away in delight after beating Kiko Casilla.

The pure heartbreak in the Brighton loanee’s body is clear to see as he looks a completely broken figure.

It’s a photo that shows just how much the youngster cares, even if he is simply on loan at Elland Road.

But it also sums up the type of player he is. Since walking through the doors at Thorp Arch he has been nothing but exceptional and has quickly become a fan favourite, earning rave reviews after their win against Stoke.

So far this season, the 21-year-old has won 2.5 tackles per game, as well as making a colossal 4.2 interceptions each match. He also has an impressive pass success rate of 87.6%, per WhoScored.

In the frame before the picture above, he desperately tries to throw himself in the way of the ball, something that displayed his dedication and commitment to the cause.

However, for one of the first times this season, White came out second best.

Liverpool fans support Paul Glatzel following knee operation

[ad_pod ]

On Thursday, Liverpool revealed that young attacker Paul Glatzel had undergone successful surgery after picking up a knee injury against Tranmere Rovers.

The 18-year-old was making his first-team debut for the Reds when he suffered damage to a knee ligament in the second half of the pre-season friendly.

The statement on the club’s official website revealed that the teenager will now be undergoing a rehabilitation period at the training ground.

Glatzel broke into the Liverpool Under-23 side towards the end of last season having impressed for the club’s Under-18 outfit.

The injury is a huge blow for the teenager at this stage of his career.

However, the club’s Under-23 boss Neil Critchley has insisted that Glatzel has “the strength of character” to bounce back.

Leeds fans are raving about Mateusz Bogusz

[ad_pod ]

Leeds’ 16-man tour squad for Australia includes some fabulously talented youngsters with the likes of Jordan Stevens, Bryce Hosannah and Clarke Oduor all among those to have travelled.

A host of first-team members have been left behind with Marcelo Bielsa also preferring to stay in England before making the trip over at a later date.

The Whites take on Manchester United on Wednesday on the other side of the world before they take on Tadcaster Albion a matter of hours later rather closer to home.

However, another youngster besides those already mentioned who will be hoping to make an impact is Mateusz Bogusz.

The 17-year-old was snapped in training scoring a curling free-kick and as a result, supporters of the club were left to rave about the midfielder.

One fan tipped him to become world-class whilst another claimed he’ll be in the first-team next season. A further supporter said he was going to be ridiculous in the future.

Bogusz signed for Leeds from Ruch Chorzow in January after scoring five goals in the Polish third tier. He made the bench four times last term, being included in the squad for both play-off clashes with Derby.

Transfer Focus: West Ham table bid for Lorient winger Alexis Claude-Maurice

[ad_pod ]

Sky Sports have reported that Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United have tabled a bid for Lorient winger Alexis Claude-Maurice as they search for their third signing of the summer window.

What’s the word, then?

The Hammers’ approach to the Ligue 2 side is believed to be £10m for the 21-year-old, who has also been linked with West Ham’s Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Claude-Maurice has represented the French national team at every level from under-18 to under-20 and spent his entire career thus far at his current club, having progressed through their youth ranks.

However, following the Brittany side’s failure at promotion to Ligue 1 in 2018/2019, the attacker is expected to leave with the London Stadium very much looking like his next destination at present. He’s a left winger by trade but can play centrally and even be fielded on the right flank.

Real kick in the teeth for Diangana

You may be asking yourself, why do the east Londoners want an exciting young attacking hotshot who can play on either wing or in the middle when they have Grady Diangana, that very thing?

Well, the truth is that this move, if it goes ahead, would be a real kick in the teeth for the Academy of Football product and possibly the beginning of the end for him and the team he’s been with since childhood.

Breaking through into Pellegrini’s side to secure his senior debut last term and making a further 20 appearances in all competitions, many are predicting the 21-year-old to really kick on and become a first-team regular next campaign.

However, a move to bring Claude-Maurice in would suggest that the club don’t have the same confidence about Diangana and perhaps don’t believe his future lies in east London.

The Frenchman is exactly the same age as the Englishman and has an eerily similar style of play. In fact, they are so similar in so many different regards that it would make little sense to have them both in the same squad. This has to go down as the first nail in the coffin of Diangana’s West Ham career.

Transfer Focus: Leeds looking to add depth with Michael Frey

[ad_pod ]

In the same week former Leeds United player Noel Whelan urged Leeds to uncover a gem of a striker, the Whites have shown an interest in Michael Frey.

The 24-year-old has bounced around Europe in recent years, but he is yet to try his hand in English football despite previously being linked to Middlesbrough.

An article written by Phil Hay in the Yorkshire Evening Post stated that the Whites are looking at the attacker, and it’s no secret that they need more striking options.

Who is he?

Even though he is only 24-year-old Frey is earning a reputation as a journeyman across Europe.

If he were to join Leeds, it would be his sixth move in seven years. He has played in Switzerland, France and most recently Turkey.

He hasn’t been prolific for any of his clubs, with his highest goalscoring return being 12 goals in the Swiss Super League for FC Zurich two seasons ago.

If he was to come in at Elland Road it is quite clear that he would be nothing more than a backup striker, and unfortunately, Whelan wouldn’t be getting his wish of the Whites signing the new Teemu Pukki.

Adding depth

Marcelo Bielsa’s squad is extremely short on strikers. Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe are the only two players in the team who can adequately occupy that position.

Frey would add some much-needed squad depth to the Yorkshire club after both Roofe and Bamford proved that they can’t be trusted to start every game.

The former Boro man picked up a suspension for simulation in the late stages of the season, and he was once again booked for diving in the playoff semi-final against Derby. If that trend continues he may miss a few games next term.

The 26-year-old, on the other hand, has had no luck with injuries, and if he can’t stay fit, Leeds need another option on the bench.

It’s hard to see Frey displacing the club’s top scorer or the £10m man, so he would most likely fit in as the third choice. However, with his pedigree of being a Europa League goalscorer he may prove to be a useful addition.

Mixed opinions: Everton fans struggle to agree on potential Malcom swoop

[ad_pod ]

Last summer, Everton are understood to have made a strong attempt to sign winger Malcom from Bordeaux.

As it turned out, Barcelona took the Brazilian to Spain, but it has not happened for the 22-year-old at Camp Nou.

Indeed, ahead of the Copa del Rey final, Malcom has scored just four times in 23 games for the Spanish champions, including just one in La Liga.

A report from Sport has suggested that Borussia Dortmund are keen to sign the attacker as a replacement for Christian Pulisic, while Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also interested parties.

With speculation beginning to heat up, the Everton fans have been on social media discussing whether their club should make another attempt to land the South American in the summer.

There are those who feel that the Toffees should move on and forget about a deal for the former Corinthians academy product.

However, others have urged the club to reignite their interest in this summer’s transfer window.

West Ham United: Uninterested Marko Arnautovic shouldn’t be tolerated anymore

Once West Ham United’s prized asset, Marko Arnautovic now looks like a shell of his former self.

The Hammers signed him for £20.07 million (as per Transfermarkt).

After a January exit was blocked off by the Hammers, the controversial striker’s not been the same. Indeed, if recent games set an example, he’s quite clearly not really interested in performing well either.

Frankly, the Austrian looks to have lost that hunger which spurred him on to become a big fan-favourite at the London Stadium. He is almost like a pedestrian in games nowadays, showing little willingness to create or score goals anymore, the kind of petulant attitude to have appeared throughout his career. In fact, Arnautovic’s last goal came against Brighton after New Year’s Day, as he’s yet to net a single goal after his January transfer saga.

The 30-year-old’s adding little to West Ham’s game and isn’t moving around as he used to either. He isn’t getting behind defenders, running the extra mile or showing the urgency to score goals anymore. The Austrian’s performances as of late have been extremely lethargic, proving that all isn’t well between him and Manuel Pellegrini.

Recently against Leicester City, he only had one shot which skied past goal, while recording only 76% passing accuracy from 21 passes (stats via Fotmob). The Hammers shouldn’t allow him to hold them back, as Pellegrini should keep him permanently benched even if it threatens to destabilize his team’s shape.

This season is almost over and Arnautovic is no more the inspiring figure he used to be and it’s high time David Gold and David Sullivan look to replace him with a quality striker who’ll actually play for the badge.

West Ham fans, do you think it’s time to get rid of Arnautovic? Join the discussion by commenting below…
