Spurs Star "Relaxed" About Potential Move

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane is "quite relaxed" amid his transfer saga and will simply "get on with things" should a move fail to materialise, claims Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour.

Is Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer?

Transfer windows tend to be best remembered for the transfer sagas that dominated them, and without a doubt, this window has been dominated by Bayern Munich's relentless pursuit of Spurs superstar Kane.

The Bundesliga champions have already had two offers rejected by the Lilywhites, with the second being worth an estimated €80m (£69m), as Daniel Levy has made it abundantly clear that he will not be accepting any offers below £100m for his prized asset.

This has yet to deter the German behemoths, though, as they continue to press on with their single-minded objective to bring the 30-year-old to Bavaria this summer.

Read the latest Tottenham Hotspur transfer news HERE…

It looked as if there could've been some kind of breakthrough over the last week as members from both sides met in London for the first in-person talks of the saga, only for it to be reported that the sides ended the discussions with the Germans still being around £20m short of Tottenham's valuation.

Whilst in the past, players at the centre of transfer sagas have kicked up a fuss to try and get things moving – as Kane did two years ago – the Walthamstow-born goal machine has kept remarkably quiet throughout this affair, and should a deal not simply is expected to "simply concentrate on his football", per Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour.

He explained the situation on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, saying:

"I think he's quite relaxed. If he is a Tottenham player at the start of the season or even beyond the window, I think he's simply going to get on with things. That's what we are being told, that he will simply concentrate on his football, knowing that he has got the one year left on his contract.

"And of course, if he is still a Tottenham player at the start of the season, then there is that chance, the small chance of Tottenham convincing him to sign a contract maybe later in the season.

"But I think all the signs at the moment are maybe pointing towards that deal being agreed."

Who have Tottenham Hotspur been linked to this summer?

With the Kane deal still in the air and nobody quite sure where he could end up, it would be incredibly negligent of Spurs not to have any attacking targets lined up for potential transfers. Luckily for fans of the club, it would appear that they do.

According to Football Insider, one of the players the north Londoners have been 'keeping tabs on' is Nottingham Forest's Welsh magician Brennan Johnson.

The 22-year-old has attracted a lot of attention following his brilliant campaign for the Tricky Trees last season and would represent a good signing for Spurs should they need attacking reinforcements next year – although he is expected to cost at least £40m.

Interestingly, another attacker that Tottenham are keen to sign is Bayern's young Frenchman Mathys Tel.

Mathys Tel

According to the Telegraph, Spurs have also been using the talks about their talismanic striker to discuss the possibility of including the 18-yer-old prospect in any potential deal, whether on loan or permanently.

Considering the youngster scored five goals in just 399 minutes of Bundesliga football last season – one every 0.88 games – it would be smart business from Levy and Co. However, whether FC Hollywood would accept it is another thing entirely.

Ultimately, even with the season officially starting next week, it looks like this is a transfer saga that could keep on rolling all the way to September 1.

Leeds’ "Unbelievable" £6.5k-p/w Target Rejects New Contract

Leeds United target Gustavo Hamer has refused the opportunity to sign a new contract at Coventry City amid interest from Elland Road, according to fresh reports.

Is Gustavo Hamer leaving Coventry?

Since joining from PEC Zwolle back in 2020, Hamer, whose natural role is defensive midfield, has become a regular feature of Mark Robins’ first team having made 42 Championship starts from 46 matches last season, but there’s a strong possibility that he could be on the move during the ongoing window.

The Dutchman’s contract is set to expire in less than a year meaning that his side are now presented with their final opportunity to cash in for a decent fee, and should he depart, he won’t be short of potential suitors having established himself as their second best-performing player during the previous campaign with a WhoScored match rating of 7.26.

Back in May 2022, Sussex Live claimed that the Whites were keeping tabs on the 26-year-old so the hierarchy are clearly long-term admirers, and Football League World more recently suggested that Daniel Farke and the 49ers are preparing an ambitious raid this summer.

Speaking during a recent interview, Robins was asked about the future of his central talisman with regards to him putting pen to paper on fresh terms and hinted that the final decision will ultimately come down to the player. He said: “I have got nothing new to add on that or share with anybody. I think that will become clearer as we move forward, but that’s entirely down to Gus.”

Are Leeds signing Gustavo Hamer?

According to Voetbal Rotterdam (via MOT Leeds News), Coventry have offered Hamer a new contract but he "hasn't signed it" as a result of growing admiration from Leeds.

Fulham and newly-promoted Burnley also hold an "interest" in the midfielder, and the outlet states that the attention from the trio of clubs mentioned above "looks to be stopping" their target from committing his future in the Midlands.

Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

Former Coventry goalkeeper Marko Marosi previously hailed Hamer an “unbelievable” player during his time at the club so the fact that the defensive midfielder is reluctant to extend his stay is a massive boost for Farke, because it shows that he could be tempted by the project at Leeds, albeit Fulham and Burnley are also two very attractive prospects.

The Sky Blues’ £6.5k-per-week earner racked up an impressive 19 goal contributions (ten assists and nine goals) in the second-tier last season, alongside whipping 174 crosses into the box which was higher than any other member of his squad, via FBRef, with this remarkable attacking form seeing him receive nine man-of-the-match awards.

The Whites could be handed a small advantage over the Cottagers and the Clarets in their pursuit of Hamer due to the fact that he shares the same agent, CAA Stellar, as Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Daniel James, so his representative will already have had previous dealings with Leeds chiefs, something which they can use to benefit them once again this time around.

Tottenham Could Find Ange’s Next Hatate In £50m "Sensation"

It has already proven a particularly active transfer window for those at Tottenham Hotspur, with new boss Ange Postecoglou having overseen the signings of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon, while permanent deals for both Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have also been confirmed.

Despite that early flurry of activity, it does not appear that the Lilywhites are done just yet in the summer spending spree, with notable names having been mentioned of late as possible transfer targets.

What are the latest Tottenham transfer rumours?

Amid the club's search for new reinforcements at centre-back, there are reports that the north Londoners are in talks regarding the signing of Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven, while Crystal Palace star Joachim Andersen has also been touted as a possible defensive alternative.

As for the midfield ranks, The Telegraph reported last week that Postecoglou and co are eyeing a move for Chelsea maestro, Conor Gallagher, with the Englishman lined up to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at N17.

While Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be keen to work with the seven-cap international at Stamford Bridge, the suggestion is that an offer of around £50m could be enough to get a deal over the line – albeit with West Ham United also showing a strong interest in the 23-year-old.

Should Tottenham sign Conor Gallagher?

While trying to compete in the Premier League is seemingly a far greater challenge than enjoying success in the Scottish Premiership, Postecoglou will be hoping to replicate key elements of his treble-winning Celtic side in his new surroundings.

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate.

A prominent figure in the Hoops' recent success under the 57-year-old was that of Reo Hatate, with the Japanese international having scored 13 goals and chipped in with 14 assists in 66 games in all competitions since joining from Kawasaki Frontale in January 2022.

The 25-year-old – who has himself been linked with a move to Spurs of late – typically operated in one of Postecoglou's two advanced midfield berths, having been lauded for his 'all-action' style by pundit Alan Hutton, who stated earlier this year:

"He is all action, all energy, he is everywhere, tackling, scoring, creating."

That energetic approach in the centre of the park is something which Gallagher could seemingly replicate under Postecoglou were he to join the north Londoners this summer, with the Epsom-born engine having been lauded for his "relentless work rate" by analyst Patrick Rowe, as well as being been described as a true "box-to-box midfielder" by writer Zach Lowy.

The former Crystal Palace loanee notably emerged as something of a "sensation" following what was a breakout 2021/22 campaign on loan at Selhurst Park – as hailed by Lowy – having scored eight goals and registered three assists in the Premier League, with Hatate also posing a real threat in the final third with six goals and eight assists in the Premiership in the most recent season.

While the 2022/23 campaign was far less fruitful for Gallagher, as the £50k-per-week asset contributed just four goal involvements back at his parent club in the league, he still showcased his defensive prowess after averaging 1.3 tackles per game – a similar record to what Hatate achieved last season (1.2 tackles per game).

Those glaring similarities between the pair should indicate that if Postecoglou is looking to sign a Premier League-proven version of Hatate, then he should look no further than that of Gallagher.

Borthwick slipstreams 'master' Sangakkara

ScorecardIf Surrey are to make the title tilt that many consider within their grasp, they will seldom be able to bully teams as they did Warwickshire at The Oval last week. To thrive in a Division One that appears more competitive than ever, Surrey will need resilience, stubbornness, and the savvy to escape from precarious positions with minimal harm. Kumar Sangakkara and Scott Borthwick displayed plenty of such qualities in adding 256 to ensure a draw against Lancashire. Both played magnificently. In recent times Sangakkara’s innings for Surrey have taken on the air of a father playing with children in the park without wanting to be too mean-spirited: he has thrashed the bowling around a little and then generously chipped the ball to the on side, as in his tame dismissal for 46 on the third day.His brilliance for Surrey has been more fleeting than a club would hope from their overseas star; a year had passed since his last Championship century, during which there have been seven half-centuries, each containing wondrous shots yet none leaving an indelible mark on a match. But here, dreamy batsmanship fused with tenacity, as if Sangakkara was piqued by the notion that this game would be defined by another retired Test great, Shivnarine Chanderpaul. After Surrey’s inertia against Lancashire’s spin twins in their first innings, Sangakkara resolved not to let the opposition attack establish such a hold again. Each of his 16 boundaries were hit so sweetly that the fielders themselves seemed inclined to applaud. Three particularly stood out: caressing Kyle Jarvis down the ground, generating ferocious power from nothing more than a nonchalant push; shimmying down the pitch and contemptuously lifting Simon Kerrigan into the second tier; and then slog-sweeping Kerrigan to reach his century, a shot in keeping with the determination to dominate that infused his innings.Borthwick, meanwhile, moved to The Oval hoping to construct innings such as this. He batted rather more austerely than Sangakkara, underpinned by a firm forward stride to inoculate his stumps from harm. If there was less for aesthetes to savour from Borthwick, he was no less effective, sweeping efficiently against spin, greeting any width on the off side by thrashing the ball through the covers, and scything anything short through his favoured leg side, as when he received an egregious long-hop on 99 to reach his century.”It’s something I’ve dreamt of for the last five or six months,” he said. On a day when Durham lost their opening game in Division Two, this, following Mark Stoneman’s debut century for Surrey last week, was another reminder of the talent that Durham has produced and now has lost.It is a little over three years since Borthwick’s solitary Test cap, as a legspinner, and a little under a year since he was primed to be picked against Pakistan as a specialist Test batsman, only for his batting returns to fall away just as the scrutiny increased. On this evidence, the first cap of the new stage of his career might not be far away, though the scramble for England places has seldom been fiercer.Borthwick believes that batting alongside Sangakkara, just as he used to for Durham, will aid his prospects. “Batting with him it’s almost like you’re learning by watching him and the way he’s talking to you. He’s a bit of a batting coach as well, he gives you tips, especially against spin,” Borthwick said. “At Durham you don’t get to play against spin much so it’s good that I did what I did today, and can learn from Sanga – he’s the master.”Yet, as well as Borthwick batted, he knows that honing his legspin, restricted to nine overs so far in 2017, will increase his chances of another England cap.”I don’t want to be a frontline anything – I want to score runs and take wickets and be an allrounder,” he said. “If we get wickets that can turn I might be able to get more wickets. Looking at that wicket there we’ve just batted on, it’ll spin. So hopefully if we do produce wickets like that than myself, Gareth [Batty] and Zafar [Ansari] can come into the game because I think it will definitely spin. Hopefully we can help each other. There’ll be times when it’ll be my day and times when it’ll be their day.”Lancashire’s flag was removed prematurely from the ground in the afternoon, as if preparing the side for an early getaway, and it seemed a recognition that this was not their day. Yet that detracted little from an admirable display in south London, with the return of James Anderson for their next fixture providing a further source of comfort.

Chris Cowlin Not Happy After Hearing Who Could Join Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur re-signing loanee Clement Lenglet would highlight their lack of ambition, podcaster Chris Cowlin has claimed.

What's the latest on Spurs and Lenglet?

The Frenchman made 35 appearances on loan in North London from Barcelona, but was part of a Spurs defence which shipped 63 goals in 38 league games.

Spurs need to strengthen their squad after a dismal season which saw them finish eighth and sack Antonio Conte, and new manager Ange Postecoglou has a major job on his hands as he attempts to rebuild the squad.

It is clear that reinforcements in defence are needed, and it has now been mooted that Spurs will keep the 27-year-old permanently.

This move has been greeted with skepticism by Cowlin, who told TalkSPORT that failing to upgrade on Lenglet will sum up the level of ambition at Spurs right now.

"There's lots of talk about us signing Lenglet on a permanent deal for around five million pounds from Barcelona," he stated.

"So it just depends on how we perform in this window, because are we going to go and show real intent, are we going to go and sign up real top quality players from European leagues, or are we going to put up with the likes of Clement Lenglet coming in to Tottenham? That is certainly not what I want to see."

Should Spurs sign Lenglet?

Although he was part of a poor defence, other players such as Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez earned more criticism throughout the season as part of Spurs' struggles, and Lenglet could be a useful squad player at the right price.

If Spurs can secure a cheap deal, and a reduction on his £145k-per-week wages, then Lenglet could be a valuable rotation option, who is familiar at the club, and could allow them to sell the likes of Sanchez and Dier.

clement-lenglet-tottenham-hotspur-dier-manchester-united

Spurs need a lot of upgrades all over the pitch, and with no European football, Postecoglou may find it difficult to bring in many higher quality players.

Keeping Lenglet, who has won trophies with both Barcelona and Sevilla, as an experienced squad option at a low cost, could allow Spurs to redirect funds to other areas of the pitch, whilst still potentially signing another defender as well as the France international.

If Harry Kane does not leave this summer, then Spurs may find funds limited, and this could mean that upgrades on the likes of Lenglet may have to wait.

Warwickshire's financial results highlight challenge for English game

As the Big Bash League wallows in praise after another successful year, the financial challenge facing English professional cricket remains as stark as ever as it seeks to increase the capacities of its stadia with an eye to the crowd potential of Twenty2

David Hopps28-Jan-2017As the Big Bash League wallows in praise after another successful year, the financial challenge facing English professional cricket remains as stark as ever as it seeks to increase the capacities of its stadia with an eye to the crowd potential of Twenty20 cricket. That challenge is illustrated by Warwickshire’s financial results for 2015-16, which have just been announced.Edgbaston has become the accepted home of Twenty20 Finals Day and a once unimpressive ground has been transformed into an appealing 24,000-capacity stadium but it has not been without financial pain.Warwickshire have reported turnover of £14.3m and an operating profit of £785,761 for 2015-16. That county cricket has the potential to prosper – admittedly thanks to a hefty central contribution from international revenue – is therefore apparent. But once the paying off of debts, interest, tax and depreciation is taken into account – most of them arising from the £32 million redevelopment of Edgbaston, which was completed in 2011 – the situation is more challenging.Factor in a payment of £1.1 million to Birmingham City Council to service a loan and the situation worsens. Add depreciation charges of £1.4 million, tax and other costs and the bottom line loss is £2.26m. Quite a difference.Warwickshire’s story is far from unique. Durham needed an ECB bail-out. Yorkshire are desperate to fund the replacement of a dilapidated main stand at Headingley and already have debts of £23m.The 18 English counties are indebted to a total of £150m-plus and the ECB is sitting on offshore reserves which rose as high as £73m before falling last summer because Test series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan did not attract particularly lucrative TV deals. Those reserves are jealously guarded. The former ECB chief executive, David Collier, justified the stockpiling as a contingency should the death of the Queen, and a resulting 12 days of mourning, cause heavy financial losses.Even more disturbing for English cricket would be a shift of the balance between international and club cricket. Should that occur, the English counties would have to become more self-sufficient and only a lucrative T20 tournament can deliver that.Warwickshire had a relatively successful year in 2016 season. They won the Royal London Cup and attracted more than 80,000 spectators across five days of England’s Test victory over Pakistan. The club also achieved ticket and hospitality sell-outs for its one-day international – England versus Sri Lanka – and NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day.Off the field, Edgbaston increased its share of the West Midlands’ conference and events market by developing year-on-year sales from £2.2 million to a record £2.5 million. Revenue from commercial advertising also increased.Twenty20 cricket, however, has yet to set Birmingham alight – attendances at Birmingham Bears’ home matches in the NatWest Blast are growing but not spectacularly. That makes it no surprise that the club is strongly in favour of a move to a more marketable new T20 competition based upon the biggest grounds in the country. A 25,000-seater stadium needs to be filled not just for international cricket but for T20, too.Craig Flindall, Warwickshire’s chief operating officer, said: “The 2015-16 financial year was always forecast to be the most challenging in our 2016-2019 financial cycle, and the results are in line with our budgets set at the start of the year.”The quality and volume of our major match days remains the primary driver of revenue and profit and a significant fall in both was expected in 2016 because of the comparative demand for the Investec Test match against Pakistan.”However, the transformation in the business since 2010, when England last hosted Pakistan in a Test at Edgbaston, is reflected in the comparison in the results, with turnover and EBITDA [earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation] in 2016 being £6.5m and £2.4m higher than 2010 respectively.”English cricket is pinning hopes over the next few years on a major financial inflow from the Champions Trophy in 2017 and from the 2019 World Cup. If 50-over cricket is conceding ground to T20, the process is slower at international level where T20 international fixtures are deliberately underplayed. The ECB are desperate that this trend persists for a few years yet.Flindall captured that mood. “We expect to see EBITDA and bottom line revenues grow significantly over the next three years as Edgbaston hosts up to 28 days of major match cricket,” he said. “We have an 11-day programme in 2017, which includes five matches in the ICC Champions Trophy, England’s first day/night Investec Test match and NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day.”Beyond the coming season, Edgbaston’s major match allocation includes a Test against India, a T20I and T20 Blast Finals Day in 2018, and an Ashes Test match and five matches in the World Cup in 2019.Financial pressures at Sky TV, however, where Premier League football viewing figures have dropped markedly, will leave the ECB nervous as they conduct negotiations for the next TV rights deal.Measured against the value of those rights is the recognition that cricket’s popularity has waned in the UK as it has disappeared from State schools and free-to-air TV and there has been a shrinking of the amateur game.Filling Edgbaston for a domestic NatWest Blast fixture will remain a challenge unless there is a major jolt to the system. At a time of flux in the broadcasting market, there are new markets to be explored, but until that flux settles, and a new TV rights deal is delivered that can sustain the future of English cricket, disquiet will remain.Warwickshire are an example of that. Most of the 18 first-class counties know the feeling.

Celtic Identify ‘Priority’ Postecoglou Replacement

An update has emerged on Celtic and their plans to find a replacement for Ange Postecoglou ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

What's the latest on David Moyes to Celtic?

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, the Hoops have made West Ham United head coach David Moyes their number one target to take over at Parkhead.

He Tweeted: "Understand David Moyes is the priority at Celtic Glasgow to replace Ange Postecoglou who has already agreed a deal with Tottenham."

The 57-year-old Australian has since been officially confirmed by the Premier League club as their new manager, which opens up a vacancy with the Scottish giants.

Would David Moyes fit in at Celtic?

The Hammers boss could be a dream appointment for Mark Lawwell to make for the Hoops as the 60-year-old Scotsman is an experienced and proven boss who has a pre-existing relationship with the club.

Moyes came through the Celtic academy after being born in Glasgow and started his professional career at Parkhead before moving on to the likes of Bristol City and Preston North End before his retirement and eventual switch to management.

West Ham manager David Moyes.

This suggests that the tactician, who typically deploys a 4-2-3-1 system, could adapt quickly to life in Scotland as he is already familiar with the area and the club, which may not be the case for other managers who have not stepped foot in Glasgow before.

The ex-Real Sociedad boss is also a vastly experienced coach who has proven himself in England over the course of many years at several clubs.

In 11 full Premier League seasons with Everton, Moyes finished in the top half of the table nine times and broke into the top six four times.

He only lasted one season at Manchester United but had the unenviable task of following on from the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson but ex-Red Devils centre-forward Robin van Persie, who worked with him that year, hailed the 60-year-old as a "fantastic person and a fantastic coach."

Moyes is now at West Ham and has achieved seventh and sixth-placed finishes in the Premier League in two of the last three seasons. He also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League last term and is in the final of the Europa Conference League against Fiorentina on Wednesday.

These statistics show that the Scotsman is able to punch above his team's weight by breaking into the upper reaches of the English top-flight with non-traditional top-six sides in Everton and the Hammers, whilst he has also showcased his ability to coach in Europe.

Therefore, Moyes could be a dream appointment by being able to instantly settle into life in Glasgow and having the coaching ability to potentially take Celtic to the next level in European competitions, after Postecoglou failed to get past the first round in any of the three tournaments in his two seasons at the club.

Burnley: Titan Could Be A Dream Cork Heir

Burnley are reportedly interested in signing Standard Liege defensive midfielder Gojko Cimirot this summer and the Bosnian could be a great long-term heir to Jack Cork at Turf Moor.

Could Burnley sign Gojko Cimirot?

According to Belgian news outlet Niewsblaud, both Burnley and Royal Antwerp are interested in signing the 30-year-old this summer as he stalls on signing a new contract with Les Rouches.

The Pro League side are said to have offered him a new three-year deal but so far a salary cannot be agreed upon, which could open the door for Burnley to sign him on a free transfer this summer, as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

The Bosman ruling, which allows English clubs to sign foreign players six months ahead of their contract expiry, could give Burnley an edge in this particular transfer race as they are free to open discussions with the 30-year-old now.

Would Cimirot be a good heir to Cork at Burnley?

This season has seen Cimirot make 34 appearances in the Pro League with Standard Liege, while he boasts 199 appearances in total, with two goals and eight assists in that time.

WhoScored suggests that the Bosnian's main strength is his passing, which immediately suggests that he would fit into Kompany's possession-hungry style of play, with the Belgian manager no doubt well aware of his ability from his time managing Anderlecht in the same division.

This season saw Cork make 39 appearances in the Championship en route to the title so he is clearly an important member of the squad but he will turn 34 this summer and cannot be considered a long-term option for Kompany in the Premier League.

Although the former Southampton man is something of a club icon having made 261 appearances for the Clarets, it seems clear that he needs replacing and Cimirot would represent an experienced, low-risk option for Burnley this summer.

Lauded for his "impressive" displays in Belgium by journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Cimirot has also earned 51 caps for his country so certainly wouldn't be phased by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

Kompany has had a lot of success in recruiting from Belgium, with the likes of Samuel Benson, Anass Zaroury and Josh Cullen all arriving from the Pro League last summer and playing a huge part in promotion.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see the Manchester City legend return to his home country once again this summer in search of new signings, and Cimirot could represent another excellent, affordable option.
