Although Couto's trip to the Santiago Bernabeu earlier in the season ended in disappointment as Vinicius Jr. proved too hot to handle for him in Girona's 4-0 defeat, the right-back has bounced back admirably in the subsequent matches, showcasing his resilience and talent on the field. With one goal and eight assists in 28 league appearances, his contributions have been pivotal to Girona's campaign, as they strive to secure a historic spot in the UEFA Champions League by finishing in the top four.

However, Couto's future remains uncertain, given that his contract with City is set to expire in 2025. He is currently on a two-year loan deal at Estadi Montilivi which is set to end in the summer and it remains to be seen if City choose to cash in on him during the next transfer window as they might consider him surplus to requirements at the Etihad.

WHAT COUTO SAID

In response to inquiries about a potential move to Real Madrid, Couto told , "Yes yes. If they are interested it is an option, I will not lie to you.”

However, he was quick to add: "I am a City player, I have a contract there and I dream of playing for City."

Real Madrid need reinforcements in the right-back position, considering the age of their current options, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez. As the summer transfer window approaches, they are evaluating various targets, with Couto emerging as a viable candidate alongside other prospects like Reece James from Chelsea and Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla.

  • Mansfield drop points to Colchester
  • Wrexham have chance to move within three points of top
  • Three automatic promotion spots available
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The U's took an unlikely lead just 12 minutes into the game at Field Mill, scoring through Harry Anderson's low effort into the bottom left corner from a narrow angle. With the Essex side hovering just above the drop zone on goal difference, Mansfield would have expected to steamroll to three points. The league leaders did find a way back into the game through Lewis Brunt's leveller but could not find that all important winner.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

By dropping two points, Mansfield have opened up the opportunity for those snapping at their tails to crawl ever-closer. Wrexham have the chance to move within three points of the top should they win away at Grimsby Town. However, the Red Dragons will be checking over their own shoulders at Stockport and MK Dons, who could yet prevent them from achieving automatic promotion. There are three places up for grabs.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

It was revealed that Wrexham's club value has over tripled under their Hollywood ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Shaun Harvey, the club's director, disclosed that since February 2021 the club's value has grown from £2 million ($2.5m) to £9m ($11m). Should the Red Dragons be promoted again, the club stocks will surely only continue to swell.

WHAT NEXT FOR MANSFIELD AND WREXHAM?

The two sides face off next weekend in a major top-of-the-table clash in League Two. Should the Red Dragons beat both Grimsby and Mansfield, they can go level on points at the top with just six games of the season to play.

+ CONFIRA A TABELA DO BRASILEIRÃO

ICC apologises to Ireland, Scotland for Super-Over error

The teams played out the tenth tied T20I, but a Super Over was not contested to determine the winner in accordance with the ICC’s playing conditions

The ICC has said that match referee David Jukes and the on-field umpires Allan Haggo and WPM van Liemt erred on Sunday at the end of the dramatic tie between Ireland and Scotland in Deventer and confirmed that a Super Over should have been played to determine a winner, in accordance with the ICC’s playing conditions for T20Is.”The match officials misinterpreted the T20I playing conditions which prevented the Super Over taking place following a tied match,” an ICC spokesperson had said on Tuesday. “This was a genuine oversight for which the ICC offers its sincere apologies to both Scotland and Ireland. We have picked up the matter with the officials and will mitigate against this happening in the future.”Ireland’s Stuart Thompson scampered a two to long-on off the final ball of the match to level the scores in a chase of 186. It was the tenth tied T20I, but instead of contesting a Super Over to decide the winner, both teams shook hands and walked off the field.Under the ICC playing conditions for T20Is adopted on September 28, 2017, Law 16.3.1 reads: “If the scores are equal, the result shall be a tie and no account shall be taken of the number of wickets that have fallen. In the event of a tied match the teams shall compete in a Super Over to determine the winner.”However, representatives from both Ireland and Scotland told ESPNcricinfo after the match that they had been informed by tournament officials at the start of the tri-series that there would be no Super Over in the event of a tie.Had Scotland prevailed in a Super Over, it would have been just their second T20I victory over a Full Member. They had beaten Bangladesh by 34 runs in 2012, also in Netherlands. An Ireland win, on the other hand, would have kept them in contention to claim the tri-series title on net run-rate but a tie now means they can finish no higher than second place after losing their first two matches to Netherlands. Scotland need to sweep the final two matches against Netherlands on Tuesday and Wednesday at Amstelveen to claim the title while Netherlands need to win just one of the remaining two matches to clinch the tri-series.

Rangers: Beale could save his future by ditching £4.5m flop

Glasgow Rangers head coach Michael Beale's future has come into question following the club's latest defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Sun claimed that the Englishman's spell at Ibrox is in 'doubt' after the 3-1 loss in the Scottish Premiership and journalist Graham Spiers went as far as to predict that he would be sacked, due to his "hapless" football.

As it stands, the board have not made the decision to part ways with the 43-year-old boss, despite the club's poor start to the 2023/24 campaign.

Beale came in to replace Dutch boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst during the break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar last year and did not win a single trophy for the Light Blues last season.

The ex-Queens Park Rangers chief has also endured a poor start to the current campaign domestically and in Europe. Beale failed to lead the side to qualification for the group stage of the Champions League as his team were beaten by PSV over two legs.

Rangers have also lost three of their four Premiership matches so far this season and are already seven points adrift of Celtic at the top of the table.

It remains to be seen how much more patience the board will have with Beale and that is why he must make some big decisions quickly. One move that could help him to save his future at Ibrox, or at least buy him some more time, is to ruthlessly ditch Cyriel Dessers from the starting XI for an extended period of time.

How did Dessers perform against Aberdeen?

The Nigeria international, who joined from Cremonese for a reported fee of £4.5m during the summer transfer window, put in a frustrating performance at the top end of the pitch against Aberdeen as he struggled in and out of possession.

Dessers failed to offer his team a useful outlet to hit in the final third. As per Sofascore, the 28-year-old lost three of his five aerial battles and six of his seven duels on the ground over the course of his 84 minutes on the pitch.

The 6 foot 1 centre-forward was truly dominated by the Dons defenders throughout the match, which allowed the away side to win the ball back off him with ease.

Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers.

However, opportunities still came his way to punish the opposition and get Rangers back into the game but he was unable to take them. The Nigerian missed two 'big chances' and had four shots in total without scoring.

After the match, Beale admitted that Dessers is probably "below the level" that he would like to be but also said that he is confident of the £4.5m signing eventually finding his feet in Scotland.

How many goals has Dessers scored this season?

The former Feyenoord star has found the back of the net three times in 13 matches for Rangers in all competitions since his move to Scotland.

He has particularly struggled in the Premiership so far this season as the number nine has failed to provide a consistent goal threat at the top end of the pitch.

Dessers has averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.72 across six top-flight outings this term, the 22nd-highest score within the squad which shows that he has been one of the worst performers in Glasgow – as only two players with at least one league start have averaged lower ratings.

The summer signing has only scored one Premiership goal and is not able to blame his teammates for a lack of service to him as he has missed a worrying six 'big chances'.

His poor finishing within the box has been frustrating to watch and the ex-Serie A striker has also struggled out of possession with his lack of physicality.

As per Sofascore, Dessers has lost a staggering 83% of his duels on the ground and 71% of his battles in total to go along with 0.2 tackles and interceptions per game.

This shows that the Rangers forward has found it difficult to adjust to the physicality of Scottish football as defenders are finding it far too easy to get the better of him.

Who could replace Dessers for Rangers?

Danilo, Sam Lammers and Kemar Roofe were all absent from the matchday squad against Aberdeen but B team star Zak Lovelace came off the bench and showed promise in his cameo.

The 17-year-old won 100% of his duels and created one chance in just 19 minutes of action on Saturday and Beale must now unleash him ahead of Dessers if the aforementioned trio remain out ahead of the upcoming games.

Since joining from Millwall at the start of last season, Lovelace has scored 17 goals in 32 B team outings and 15 goals in 26 Lowland League appearances.

Rangers forward Zak Lovelace.

The English youngster has also contributed with two goals and four assists in six UEFA Youth League clashes for the U19 team in that time.

In total, the Rangers youngster has netted 19 goals and provided ten assists in 38 games for the academy, which shows that he has the potential to produce quality on a consistent basis in the final third.

He has averaged a goal every other match for the young Light Blues, whilst also being able to offer creativity from a number nine or wide position, whereas Dessers has scored once in six league outings for the first team.

Beale's position is seemingly under pressure after a poor start to the season, following on from a trophyless debut campaign in Scotland, and continuing to go with the underperforming Nigeria international does not seem likely to save his job.

Therefore, the English head coach must ruthlessly ditch Dessers and unleash Lovelace in order to potentially turn Rangers' fortunes around in front of goal.

Vince, Stoneman and the story of their mixed results

Although they couldn’t convert their half-centuries, James Vince and Mark Stoneman have probably done enough to feature in the home Tests against Pakistan

England’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere began with the Test match at the Gabba. Mark Stoneman and James Vince gave them an excellent platform with encouraging half-centuries, adding 125 together, before failing to go on. England never had a foothold in the Ashes after that.Fast forward five months and the match situation is somewhat better – they lead by 231 runs and are well placed to push for a series-levelling victory and have something to show for their efforts with the pink and red ball. But for Stoneman and Vince, there is a feeling of deja vu. Half-centuries apiece, a stand of 123, the promise of more, but frustrating dismissals.

New Zealand wicketkeeper BJ Watling is hopeful a Christchurch pitch losing some of its life will keep them in with a chance of saving – or even winning – the second Test and with it taking the series.
The second new ball is 14 overs away and represents New Zealand’s last chance of having a realistic target to chase, but the bounce and carry evident for the quicks over the first half of the day has lessened.
“It’s definitely a lot flatter than over the first few days,” Watling said. “It doesn’t look like it’s breaking up at all, it actually looks like it’s getting a bit deader. I don’t think it will do a hell of a lot on the final day so we just need to get ourselves into a position to hopefully win the game.”

Stoneman had significant fortune in his innings – dropped on 48 and 57 – but couldn’t make it count when he finally paid the price for flashing outside off. Vince played with increasing confidence during his third Test fifty – all of which have come at the No. 3 position – after regaining his place that he had to forego due to the batting reshuffle at Eden Park. As ever, the drives were working well and, almost as inevitably, one brought his downfall when he edged to slip with a spot-sealing maiden Test hundred on offer.”Going forward, I’m sure both would have loved to have got hundreds and gone on for themselves and their confidence,” Graham Thorpe, the England batting coach, said, “but they’ll still get good pat off us in the dressing room because it’s easy to shrink sometimes at this level so it was important they stood up and continued to play in a positive manner.”Stoneman now has five Test fifties – including two in this series – but none higher than this 60 while Vince averages 30.54 at No. 3 from his six Test against Australia and New Zealand. Since Trevor Bayliss took over in 2015, there has been one century from the opener who isn’t Alastair Cook (and his form is heading south) or the No. 3 who isn’t Joe Root – Keaton Jennings’ 112 on debut against India (Adam Lyth’s hundred against New Zealand came while Paul Farbrace was in temporary charge). There are alternative names who will be mentioned in the lead-up to the next series, against Pakistan in May, and a strong start to the domestic season could attract interest despite England Lions being beaten 3-0 by West Indies in the four-day matches. Liam Livingstone has been on this tour – he is not someone for the top three but the batting order is also far from settled – while the likes of Haseeb Hameed, Joe Clarke, Dan Lawrence and Nick Gubbins will be touted. Recently capped players such as Jennings and Tom Westley could also restate their credentials. However, both incumbents have probably done enough to mean they will start against Pakistan, but England will leave this tour without really having a clearer picture about the best way forward for their top order.”They are in the side so they are in charge of their destiny every time they walk to the crease so the more experience they gain they are in a position to go to that next level,” Thorpe said. “Ultimately it’s up to them to take that next step and go towards three figures.”There are areas of the Test side where we aren’t going to say everyone is guaranteed places. We are constantly trying to get more out of players who are in the starting XI. You have to look at your squad and think are there better players out there or do we have to keep working hard. We have to be patient with players, the more you learn you do get over those hurdles in Test cricket and start to feel very settled. We are hoping a few of them are close to that with the Tests they are starting to play.”England arrived in Australia with a batting line-up in a state of flux and will leave New Zealand in the same position. The attacks of Pakistan and India await. They will sense vulnerability.

Crowds set to top 2 million during Australian summer

Massive crowds due to the expected success of the Ashes series and the limited-overs matches that follow combines with the continuing growth of the Twenty20 Big Bash League

Australian cricket is on course to top two million spectators at matches this summer, as the expected success of the Ashes series and the limited-overs matches that follow combines with the continuing growth of the Twenty20 Big Bash League.Including day one of the SCG Test, total Ashes attendance has now reached 729,527, putting the series in line to top the record crowds of 2006-07, when the preceding 2005 clash in England had raised interest in the ensuing battle. That was the only Australian Test series on record to have topped 800,000 spectators, with the previous Ashes series in 2013-14 being attended by more than 753,000 spectators. This summer’s increased attendances have been aided by the greater capacity of Adelaide Oval, and also the fact that each match so far has run into the fifth day. James Sutherland, the Cricket Australia chief executive, said the rising tide of crowds was being matched by the growth of the BBL, as the two contests feed off one another in terms of drawing people to cricket.Ashes crowds in Australia since ’90-91

*After day one of SCG

“It’s been a great series in terms of putting on an event, an Ashes series in our cycle of future tours programme is always a really important summer,” Sutherland told ABC Radio. “We’re heading towards crowds of over 800,000 for the Ashes Test matches. I think when we get to the one-dayers, T20s, we’ll be over a million.”Add another million for the Big Bash League, then for the first time ever we’re going to see attendances of over two million for cricket matches in Australia. So far so good, it’s been fantastic and I’d have to say the performances of the Australian team have been very pleasing as well.”This year we’re buoyed by the Adelaide Oval being at full capacity. It was only at half capacity last time, it’s one of the great assets of Australian cricket in that we’ve got these magnificent stadiums. We’ve got the Perth Stadium coming online for a game on the 28th of January, already pretty well sold out, and that in itself is just another way in which we can meet the demands of people wanting to come along to the cricket, which is fantastic to see.”Sutherland said that CA had seen evidence of Test match crowds becoming younger and more diverse, a shift he attributed to the use of T20 in general and the BBL in particular to bring new audiences to the game – a key plank of CA’s recently released strategy for the game down under. While there are inevitable grumbles about overlaying the BBL across the international summer, Sutherland has long been a proponent of co-existence rather than distinct windows.”The focus we have around T20 is bringing new fans to the game, particularly with kids, females and families, but at the same time what we’re seeing – and you only have to look around the SCG today – is kids graduating their interest into Test cricket,” Sutherland said. “Some people think that BBL is sort of counter to Test cricket, but it’s actually designed to be complementary. All of our research suggests that people still understand that the pinnacle of the game is Test cricket, the aspiration for young people is to play Test cricket, that’s the ultimate.”They’d love to play BBL, but to take it a step further and play at the highest level, and play for your country. I think this time of year I often say ‘more cricket is never enough’ and that’s been demonstrated by the way the Big Bash League has continued to grow. We also forget that Test matches are played in one place. They’re here for one week, we’re here in Sydney for one week, and that’s where it is, but at the same time, Big Bash League matches are being played in other parts of the country.”Previously in other summers gone by, we haven’t been able to feed the appetite of the Australian cricket community with other matches that they wanted to go to. We saw last night there was a game down in Hobart, great crowd, fascinating game, and again just another example of cricket being able to spread itself around the country.”As for the recent “poor” rating given the MCG for its lifeless drop-in pitch, Sutherland said the venue had been fortunate to miss out on the new ICC regulations – enforced from January 1 this year – that would have meant it faced a ban from international matches in the event of a second consecutive “poor” rating.”I think now with the new regulations that are in at ICC level, the consequences of that are quite severe,” Sutherland said. “The new regulations that came in on the first of January mean that once you’ve got a first strike, the second strike means you’ve actually got to have matches taken away from you. We’re not at that stage with the MCG, but it’s all about improvement and this is an opportunity to get better.”Ultimately it’s very disappointing to receive that rating. I think it’s probably a moot point as to where it lands and whether it was poor or the next category up, which was below average. But it’s an indicator either way – below average or poor – and it’s a rating we’re not comfortable with, and I know the MCC and the MCG aren’t happy with it either.”I think that will be the catalyst for us to work closely with them to respond and ensure we know and understand exactly what we’re looking for in an MCG pitch. And to define that, and to then make sure that’s rolled out with regularity and confidence.”

West Ham Could Sign £28m Star To Replace Antonio

West Ham United's Premier League campaign is well underway after taking a point away from their opening game against Bournemouth, and now the club are stepping up their pursuit of a transfer target.

What's the latest West Ham transfer news?

According to popular French news outlet L'Equipe, West Ham are preparing a bid in the region of €33m (£28m) to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer.

As per the report, the Hammers are competing with fellow Premier League and London club Chelsea for the centre-forward's signature, however, West Ham have the upper hand as Chelsea are claimed to be in slow in their approach.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

It is further noted that West Ham are going to submit their first offer soon.

Will Michail Antonio leave West Ham?

Huge changes have taken place in the West Ham squad this summer after winning the Europa Conference League just a few months ago, and David Moyes will be hoping that the departures both confirmed and imminent will not affect his team's ability to compete.

Declan Rice, Gianluca Scamacca and Manuel Lanzini have all moved on from east London, however, now Lucas Paqueta is being tempted with an attractive move to treble-winners Manchester City, whilst Michail Antonio is keen to move on.

It was reported by Football Transfers earlier this month that the all-time top-scorer for West Ham would like to end his eight-year stint and move on to a new challenge this summer, with both Leeds United and Celtic named as potential suitors.

antonio-west-ham-transfer-gossip

As a result, the signing of Wahi would present an opportunity for Moyes to finally offload the wantaway striker, as the young talent would add huge quality and plenty of goal contributions in the wake of Antonio's prospective exit.

How good is Elye Wahi?

Over 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, the 20-year-old scored 19 goals, registered five assists and created seven big chances, as well as averaging 1.9 shots on goal per game, proving that he is a real threat in the final third.

Not only that, the impressive goal machine was one of the stand-out performers across the French top-flight – ranking as the seventh top goal-scorer, fourth for non-penalty goals while he also had the highest percentage of shots on target throughout the 2022/23 season, as per FBref.

The Montpellier talent has been the recipient of high praise over his short career so far, with journalist Josh Bunting waxing lyrical about the youngster in the past, saying:

"Excited to see Wahi play this season, a magnificent young talent who reads the game so well."

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for the Irons to secure a deal for Wahi this summer and if he could emulate his incredible form in front of goal last season in the Premier League and Europa League this season, it would show there is certainly no longer any need for Antonio.

CoA gives FTP nod even as BCCI fails to call SGM

The Committee of Administrators had asked the board to fix a date for the Special General Meeting ahead of the ICC conference on December 8 and 9, but there has been little movement on the matter

Nagraj Gollapudi22-Nov-2017Even as the BCCI office bearers dither over announcing the date for a special general body meeting (SGM) to discuss the new Future Tours Programme, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) has given its nod to the broad plans devised by board chief executive officer Rahul Johri. The ICC has scheduled a workshop on December 7 and 8 in Singapore to discuss the minutiae of the new cricket schedule agreed in-principle by the Full Member nations at an ICC Board meeting in Auckland in October. At the workshop, the countries would chalk out a week-by-week plan for the FTP that will span the period between the 2019 and 2013 World Cups. Apart from the global events, the calendar would comprise the Test and ODI Leagues which start in two years’ time. The CoA, having received a request from the acting board secretary Amitabh Choudhary, had asked the BCCI to call for an emergency meeting to discuss the FTP along with the settlement of a dispute concerning Kochi Tuskers, the former IPL franchise, and revoking the suspension of the Rajasthan Cricket Association. In its e-mail sent to BCCI acting president CK Khanna on November 15, the CoA told him to finalise a date for the SGM and send a notice to all board members (state associations) within two days. However, an alert is yet to go out. Khanna told ESPNcricinfo a final decision would be taken in a meeting between the CoA and office bearers on Tuesday. He also said that he had tried to call an SGM on December 1, but Choudhary was unavailable on that day.On Tuesday, the COA chairman Vinod Rai recommended that the BCCI office bearers comprising Khanna, Choudhary and Anirudh Chaudhry (BCCI treasurer) fix the SGM before the ICC workshop. “I told them there is the ICC meeting in Singapore to finalise the FTP, so please convene your SGM before that. Till today they have not sent the notice.”It is understood that the three office bearers sat with Johri and set December 9 as the date for the SGM – the day after the ICC workshop – but the state associations have received no notice. This current episode of infighting is part of the prevailing power struggle between the COA and the office bearers, the latter a group that is deeply divided. After the COA asked Khanna to call the SGM last week, reported a strongly-worded e-mail sent by Chaudhry to Khanna and Choudhary in which he wondered how the state associations could be expected to take a call when proceedings were being “hustled through”.”It is absolutely shocking that a decision of this magnitude may be hustled through when all the members ought to have been given proper notice and time along with all relevant documents to study and deliberate on the item,” Chaudhry was quoted as saying in the letter. On Tuesday, though, Rai pointed out to the office bearers that Khanna was supposed to call the SGM on November 15, three weeks before the ICC workshop. Under the BCCI rules only the president can call an SGM with 10 days’ notice, and at the SGM, Johri was meant to talk about the FTP and explain to members the BCCI’s plans.A BCCI member claimed the infighting between the office bearers has been creating unnecessary hurdles. “Where is the question of hassling,” they said. “If BCCI cannot hold the SGM, you can’t hold the world to ransom.”
