According to reports in The Sun, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is ready to axe full-backs Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian during the January transfer window as he looks to boost his transfer kitty for the month.

The Sun says that the Portuguese manager is set to sell the out of favour Italy international in the New Year, with Sevilla and AS Roma said to be interested in the £15m-rated defender.

The 28-year-old joined the Red Devils from Torino in 2015, but he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the side since then, and he has found first-team minutes particularly hard to come by this season.

Meanwhile, new Everton boss Sam Allardyce will be looking to strengthen his squad in January in order to lead the Toffees up the Premier League table and towards the battle to qualify for Europe in the second-half of the campaign, and he may have identified certain spots in the backline as a priority for new players.

Bringing the unwanted Italian to Goodison Park could certainly prove to be a shrewd deal for the 63-year-old and the Merseyside outfit.

Here are three reasons Everton should move for Darmian in January…

They need new defenders

While Everton kept successive clean sheets in the wins against West Ham United and Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park last week, new Toffees boss Sam Allardyce may still be concerned about his side’s leaky defence.

The Merseyside outfit had let in 28 goals in their opening 13 Premier League matches this season, and with little competition for Leighton Baines at left-back and with Seamus Coleman still missing as he recovers from a double leg break and summer addition Cuco Martina failing to impress at right-back, the former England boss could be ready to move for Darmian.

Versatility

He may have only made 10 appearances in all competition for United this season, but Darmian has certainly proven just how versatile he can be.

While his preferred position is as a right-back or right wing-back, the 28-year-old has also played in the same roles on the opposite flank, while he even featured as a centre-back in United’s three-man defence against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup back in August.

The fact that he can play in so many position may well appeal to Allardyce, as he looks to add quality and depth to his squad.

Price tag

Considering some of the ridiculous price tags and transfer fees that are being thrown around in the modern day, Everton may feel that they would be getting something of a bargain if they could pick up a player of Darmian’s quality for just £15m.

At 28 years of age the Italian should be enjoying the best years of his career, while the experience he has gained playing for Man United in the Premier League and Champions League – as well as in 36 caps for his country – show that he would be a useful addition to a Toffees team that wants success.

According to reports in L’Equipe last week, Chelsea are interested in signing Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso if they fail to complete a deal for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Blues manager Antonio Conte is desperate to bring in some competition for the likes of N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the park this summer, and his number one target was said to be Bakayoko.

However, with the Ligue 1 champions already selling Bernardo Silva to Manchester City and with the likes of Benjamin Mendy and Kylian Mbappe heavily linked with moves away as well, they could decide to hold on to Bakayoko unless they receive an offer they can’t refuse.

If that turns out to be the case Conte could turn his attentions to Tolisso, who has been an impressive performer for Lyon this season after helping them to a fourth-placed finish, and the Frenchman could be tempted by the lure of guaranteed Champions League football.

Here are three reasons Chelsea should sign Tolisso this summer…

His performances

The 22-year-old will be on the radar of a number of top clubs across Europe following a standout season for the Ligue 1 outfit.

The midfielder scored 14 goals and provided a further seven assists in 47 appearances in all competitions for the French club, but while he is impressive from an attacking point of view, he also adds value with the defensive side of his game too.

The Frenchman made 40 clearances and 36 interceptions in 30 league appearances this term.

He will have a point to prove

According to ESPN FC last month, Tolisso wants to play Champions League football next season and he won’t be able to do that if he stays with Lyon, whose fourth-place finish only guaranteed them a spot in the Europa League next term.

The reason he wants to play in Europe’s elite competition is to boost his chances of featuring for France at the 2018 World Cup, and that would mean that he has a real point to prove if he was to move to Chelsea, which would only benefit the Blues.

Price tag

According to reports in The Telegraph last month Bakayoko could cost Chelsea around £43m this summer if they were to bring him to Stamford Bridge, but it is likely that Tolisso could be purchased for a fee lower than that with Lyon not in the limelight like Monaco currently are.

With the French club failing to qualify for the Champions League and the player seemingly wanting out as a result, the Blues will be confident that they could sign the 22-year-old for a reasonable price.

Brendan Rodgers is set to give youth a chance of the festive period as their busy December continues.

As quoted by the Aberdeen Evening Express on Monday, the Northern Irishman said: “My job fundamentally coming here was to win trophies, to play attacking football the Celtic way and to bring young players through. So we will look to see if there are any young players we can maybe look at over the next few games.”

That’s not only heartening for the fringe players in the Celtic squad, but Hoops fans, too, who love seeing young talent come through the ranks in Glasgow.

Partick Thistle haven’t beaten Celtic since 1995 and likely won’t give the Bhoys much trouble regardless of what team they put out.

That could mean it’s tonight’s game where we see some of Rodgers’ youngsters.

But who could they be and why do they deserve a shot?

Here are the THREE starlets that we think Rodgers should give the nod to against Partick Thistle…

Liam Henderson

Liam Henderson has been in and around the first-team squad this season but hasn’t managed to make the breakthrough into Rodgers’ team in a significant way. Starting just two games with a further three appearances from the bench, it’s time for him to show what he can do.

The Bhoys won both games he started this season, against Motherwell and Ross County in the league, so he’s certainly not a liability.

He was excellent at Hibs last season on loan, and helped the side to do the unthinkable and finally win the Scottish Cup. Can he reproduce the same form for Celtic in the top flight?

Anthony Ralston

Defender Anthony Ralston has already featured for Rodgers this season, coming off the bench with just eight minutes to go during Celtic’s League Cup win over Motherwell in August.

It was only his second appearance for the club in competitive action and was a fitting reward for a fine pre-season for the Hoops in the summer.

He’s featured regularly for the Development Squad since and deserves a chance to show what he can do in defence. A natural right-back, he could potentially provide competition for both Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa on that flank.

Jack Aitchison

Jack Aitchison made all the headlines back in May when he became Celtic’s youngest ever player and youngest ever goalscorer on the same day during a memorable win in Ronny Deila’s last day with the club.

He’s starred for the Development Squad since and scored a memorable solo goal away to Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League earlier this season.

We’d love to see him get another chance in the first-team to show what he can do, perhaps replacing Leigh Griffiths or Moussa Dembele if everything is going to plan vs. Thistle.

Another week has come and gone, and once again Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win.

Their draw with Birmingham on Saturday made it just one win in 12 league games for the Owls, but they came painfully close to picking up all three points on Saturday.

Wednesday scored three away from home, but their defensive frailty cost them dearly.

To be fair, problems may have been inevitable after Osaze Urgohide’s red card last week left them short, but the reality is that it wasn’t Urgohide’s indiscipline that cost the Yorkshire club, it was Garry Monk’s stubbornness.

The solution to Monk’s problems seemed rather simple, stick Dominic Iorfa at right-back and bring in someone to cover at centre-half, but the manager didn’t see it that way.

Instead, he changed his whole system to a five at the back, moving the heavily-criticised Joey Pelupessy to full-back.

Predictably, this didn’t work and at half-time Monk took Pelupessy off.

Unfortunately, this was the sign of another tactical reshuffle as Iorfa was also substituted, with Connor Wickham and Morgan Fox entering proceedings.

This didn’t solve anything for Wednesday as they went on to draw 3-3, but this may have all been avoided if Monk wasn’t freezing out Sam Hutchinson.

Statistically, Hutchinson is Wednesday’s best defensive option, and if Monk wanted to play a five at the back system he would have been a great addition to the side alongside Tom Lees and Julian Borner.

This would have allowed Iorfa to move out to the right, meaning Pelupessy wouldn’t have had to fill in a spot he’s only played in seven times in his career.

Monk overcomplicated things just to avoid bringing Hutchinson back into the fold, and in the end that cost the Owls with strong attacking output being undone by the three goals they shipped at the other end.

In other news, Wednesday fans are fuming with Garry Monk’s recent comments.

Evra is among those urging Lingard to keep his head up, with the former United defender backing his one-time Old Trafford team-mate to find a new club in the not too distant future. Evra has responded to Lingard’s latest video on social media by saying: “Your time coming soon brother keep working hard.”

Após cada rodada ou dia de jogo, o Números da Bola traz a atualização da Seleção das Estatísticas da Libertadores. Usando dados do Footstats, o blog monta um selecionado com os atletas que lideram as estatísticas de alguns dos principais fundamentos individuais na competição (a partir da fase de grupos).

Se não bastasse as críticas do mandatário, a entrevista coletiva de Carille na última sexta-feira, também teve recados diretos ao elenco. O treinador chegou a dizer que sente ‘vergonha’ da equipe. Ele, inclusive, tem seu cargo ameaçado dependendo do resultado da partida deste domingo contra o Flamengo.

– Vergonha. Não preciso olhar como torcedor, não, tenho que olhar como comissão e ser ciente daquilo. Vergonhoso, não parece um time treinado, parece que se junta no vestiário e vai para o jogo. Você passa informações e depois tá na beira do campo e isso não é feito. Não está faltando raça, mas tecnicamente a gente tem que ser melhor.

كشفت وسائل إعلامية إنجليزية، عن إصابة مهاجم مانشستر سيتي الإنجليزي ومنتخب النرويج إيرلينج هالاند قبل مباراة لوتون تاون.

وسيواجه مانشستر سيتي فريق لوتون تاون، ضمن منافسات الجولة الـ16 من الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز اليوم في تمام الرابعة عصرًا بتوقيت القاهرة.

ويحتل مانشستر سيتي المركز الرابع في ترتيب الدوري الإنجليزي برصيد 30 نقطة، فيما يأتي لوتون تاون في المركز الثامن عشر برصيد 9 نقاط.

ومن المتوقع أن يغيب اللاعب النرويجي عن صفوف مانشستر سيتي مدة تترواح ما بين 7:21 يومًا، بحسب ما جاء في الصحف والوسائل الإعلامية البريطانية.
