Real Madrid fans react to the latest Thibaut Courtois update

Thibaut Courtois has definitely seen some better days.

The great Belgian goalkeeper arrived at Real Madrid from Chelsea in the summer of 2018 but his venture at the Spanish capital has been all but easy.

The 27-year-old has already conceded a total of six goals in six La Liga games in the 2019/20 campaign and has been under heavy scrutiny from the fans for a really long time now.

Recently, however, in Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Club Brugge at the Santiago Bernabeu, Courtois was subbed off at half-time due to some discomfort and inability to continue the game.

Even though we had no idea what caused the issue at first, an official statement from the club clarified things and it seems Courtois is suffering from gastroenteritis with dehydration and electrolyte imbalance as opposed to what was initially reported as anxiety issues.

But even though the Belgian is currently unwell and having a hard time in the squad, many Real Madrid fans felt no sympathy and still bashed the goalkeeper mercilessly.

Many of them were saying they had thought the announcement was actually about him being sold and how they had hoped it to be just that.

It seems that even a difficult injury can’t turn the fans around and Courtois remains a heavily criticised figure in the squad.

Sunderland fans react to positive takeover update

Loads of Sunderland fans have been reacting to the latest takeover news, as some reports have suggested an American investment group is set to take charge of the club very soon.

According to BBC Newcastle, via Roker Report, the MSD Capital group, led by billionaire Michael Dell, are nearing a deal to become the majority shareholders at the Stadium of Light.

Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven are expected to remain involved with the club, keeping a smaller stake and staying on as board members.

TalkSPORT have since delivered a further update, again via Roker Report, claiming that while the deal won’t happen this week, it is “imminent”.

Of course, the news that Forbes’ 25th-richest man in the world is due to lead a takeover of their club has got fans absolutely buzzing.

The Black Cats faithful have seen their side plummet from the Premier League to the third tier in recent years, and last season’s double Wembley heartbreak certainly didn’t lift spirits.

This news has however, with some fans quite simply being unable to contain their excitement, while some convey their emotions in the form of funny gifs and videos, and one has suggested that the Netflix documentary Sunderland ‘Til I Die may be to thank.

Southampton fans call for Victor Wanyama move

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas on Twitter, there is an outside chance that Tottenham Hotspur could loan out Victor Wanyama before Thursday’s deadline if they can find a potential suitor, and Southampton fans have called for their club to re-sign the Kenya international.

Thomas says that Spurs are yet to find a potential new club for the 28-year-old, who appears to have fallen down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon earlier in the summer.

He has made 93 appearances for the north London outfit, but has suffered from his fair share of injury issues in recent seasons – missing 47 matches since the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign according to Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Saints do have central midfield options in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse, but with Mario Lemina currently frozen out and not wanted, they do look short of another defensively-minded player in central areas.

Wanyama would certainly fit the bill given he provided an effective barrier alongside Morgan Schneiderlin in front of the backline during his previous spell – they only conceded 33 Premier League goals in 2014/15 – and it is a move that a number of Saints supporters on the popular social media platform seem keen on.

While one said they would “take him back in a second”, another urged director of football operations Ross Wilson to “get on this”.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy shares some exciting personal news on Twitter

[ad_pod ]Jamie Vardy’s having a baby.It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as ‘Jamie Vardy’s having a party’, but nevertheless, it’s true. The Leicester City striker announced the news on Twitter on Tuesday that he and his wife Rebekah are expecting another child.

Vardy’s family lined up for a photoshoot to announce that they’re expecting a new addition to the gang.

Between the couple, they have four children, and with another baby on the way they can now make a little five-a-side team.

Parenthood can be a daunting task for anyone, but luckily the former England international is just as experienced at being a Dad as he is at scoring goals.

Spurs fans are wrong to want Gareth Bale to return this summer

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans were sent into a frenzy last weekend after Mauricio Pochettino pleaded ignorance when asked about the possibility of Gareth Bale returning to the club.

He is being frozen out at Real Madrid and his manager, Zinedine Zidane, has confirmed that he wants the Wales international to leave the club.

Asked about the possibility of a stunning deal to bring Bale back, Pochettino said: “Yes, I saw in the media but I don’t know which club is working, trying to sign him. At the moment I don’t have any information from my chairman. I don’t know if we are or it’s another club. It’s not my job. It’s the job of my chairman that is trying to build the best squad possible.”

Cue meltdown.

Scores of fans flooded Twitter, begging for the club to bring the former star back to north London.

Across a six-year stay in the capital, Bale became a megastar, scoring 56 goals and registering 58 assists in 203 games. He scored that famous hat-trick against Inter Milan. He became renowned for long-range screamers. He moved for a world-record fee.

Yet fans are forgetting something: Bale treated Spurs like dirt.

On August 28th, 2013, as he neared a move to Madrid, the Daily Telegraph reported that he failed to turn up to training for two days in a row.

His then-manager, Andre Villas-Boas, had expected him to turn up, per the report, but he simply didn’t.

The manager later said in a press conference that Bale would probably be fined for failing to report.

He said, per The Metro: “He is involved in a big transfer move to Real Madrid and in the end if it happens, we wish him all the best, but the fact that he hasn’t turned up is not the correct behaviour.

“That is the position they chose to take and it’s up to the club to decide if it’s a fineable offence.”

Prior to this, on July 23rd, Marca, via the Telegraph, reported that Bale had told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy he wanted to leave after his agent, Jonathan Barnett, was involved in a clandestine meeting with Los Blancos officials in which he was shown his client’s prospective No.11 shirt at the Bernabeu.

Barnett, the Telegraph claimed, was involved in discussions as to how to force Spurs into a sale.

On July 30th, the newspaper claimed that Bale was growing “frustrated” and that his state of mind was one of “anger” that Spurs were adopting a “stubborn approach”.

The next day, they reported that Bale had personally informed Villas-Boas he wanted to leave.

This is not a player who respected Spurs.

Of course, players have dream moves. Certain Premier League players want to play for certain big clubs abroad. It has happened ad infinitum and is happening again this summer, with Eden Hazard moving to Real Madrid from Chelsea.

Yet for fans to beg for Bale’s return is to forget what he did to the club.

It was a summer of frustration for fans as the transfer rebel essentially soiled his own legacy.

He had been turned into a star by Tottenham and then, at the drop of a hat, turned his back on them, chasing the big move.

It has gone south. He does not seem to be wanted in Madrid despite winning a clutch of trophies and scoring one of the best goals the Champions League has ever seen.

It is ironic, really, that despite his performances, he is not being shown any loyalty, in almost a mirror image of what he did to Spurs.

Reports suggest that he could well end up in China, where he might earn over £1m-per-week and play with the likes of Marko Arnautovic, who recently forced his way out of West Ham United in pursuit of a payday.

That is the very definition of poetic justice and it is exactly what Bale deserves.

Those Spurs fans who want him back are being forgetful; he wronged the club and its supporters; he should not be welcomed back with open arms.

Leeds must replace Forshaw with someone more akin to Phillips

[ad_pod ]

According to Football Insider, talks have started between Leeds United and Fulham for the potential transfer of Adam Forshaw.

Due to their lack of depth in the position, the Whites should sign a new midfielder to replace Forshaw, but perhaps their potential additon should actually be in a different mould to the former Middlesbrough man.

What’s the story?

Fulham have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old for some time now, but it seems as if the deal is edging closer to completion after this latest update.

The Football Insider article states that Leeds will want to recoup the £4.5m they spent on the Englishman back in 2018.

That fee can be spent on a new man in his position, but United shouldn’t be looking for a like-for-like replacement.

More like Phillips

If Leeds are to bring in a new midfielder in place of Forshaw, then they should be aiming for someone whose style is more akin to the way Kalvin Phillips plays.

Forshaw isn’t a player who can perform in the same way as the youngster due to the physical demands of his role, but a new signing could provide further depth in his position.

Of course, it will be tough to find someone who can play like Phillips for around £4.5m as the dominating midfielder has already been the subject of a £14m bid, but Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani should find someone who can slot into his role when he is injured or suspended.

Leeds looked a different side when the 23-year-old wasn’t on the pitch last season, losing three of the four games he didn’t play, and that must change next term if they want to get promoted.

It’s a big season for: Davinson Sanchez

Here in our It’s a big season for feature, we’ll be taking a look as to why the upcoming campaign is so important for Spurs’ Davinson Sanchez. Of course, many fans may have had high hopes after seeing his impressive first season in north London, but things just didn’t work out for him this season and that’s something that needs to be resolved, especially with there possibly being an opening if Toby Alderweireld is to leave at any point with his contract set to expire next summer.

The centre-back looked so promising in his first season at Tottenham after a club record £42m move (as per the Guardian). Starting 29 league games, Sanchez slotted in seamlessly in a back three. Indeed, his pace, power and composure on the ball made him a perfectly rounded defender. And, he even surprised Mauricio Pochettino (as per football.London) which just goes to show how well things were going during his first season at the club.

It’s certainly been a more difficult season for the Colombian, however. Tottenham have largely utilised four at the back and with Toby Alderweireld seemingly set to stay, Sanchez could perhaps get even less minutes next season. He started just the 22 league games, with the majority coming due to injuries. Additionally, the performances he has put in have been nothing short of worrying, with his displays against Arsenal in February and Borussia Dortmund in March raising plenty of concerns on social media. If he is to stand a chance of playing any part in the future of the club then immediate improvements are required with Juan Foyth also in the picture.

Aged just 22, albeit turning 23 in the coming weeks, Sanchez has bundles of potential. Physically, he’s there. Indeed, given more time and experience in the Premier League, he could be immense, and we aren’t the only ones who think this as his former team-mate Davy Klaassen stated back in November 2018 (as per Evening Standard) that Sanchez can be one of the world’s best defenders. But next season is crucially important for Tottenham’s record signing.  Sanchez will have to improve beyond recognition to even win a place in the team next season.

Next season, therefore, represents a hugely important one for the defender. Despite his young age, a player of his quality and ambition will surely not be happy sitting on the bench for the best part of two seasons. Indeed, The Colombian’s situation could soon be made even more complicated with more competition potentially rocking up, as Spurs have been linked (as per The Sun) with a move for Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake.

With that in mind, it might be the most important campaign of his carer coming up.

Tottenham fans, have your perceptions of Sanchez changed this season? Is he good enough to become a permanent feature of the Tottenham defence? Comment below.

What a beast: Liverpool fans are loving the look of rumoured target Lloyd Kelly

[ad_pod ]Liverpool fans on Twitter like what they see when it comes to Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly, a supposed transfer target for the Champions League finalists. The 20-year-old has made 34 appearances across all competitions for the Championship side this season, and has impressed massively.Luis Suarez certainly had no qualms about celebrating against his former employers in the video below…Kelly looks like a left-footed Joe Gomez in the way that he is tall, powerful but good on the ball as well, whilst he can play at centre-back or at left-back; he is basically the mirror image of the former Charlton man.The athletic defender has been linked with a move to Anfield as back-up to Andrew Robertson, who will be in need of a new understudy with Alberto Moreno set to leave this summer.

A video has emerged on Twitter of Kelly’s highlights from the campaign just gone, and it’s safe to say that the Reds supporters are excited by what they see.

Let’s take a look at some of the replies from the fans on Twitter…
