– Eu estou passando vergonha. Se entregar assim não pode. O time está apático.

It Raines on Glamorgan but pours on Leics

Leicestershire’s Ben Raine shook Glamorgan with five wickets but a substantial late-order rally left Glamorgan holding the whip hand in Cardiff

Leicestershire medium-fast bowler Ben Raine ripped through Glamorgan’s middle order to give Leicestershire hope of victory in the Division Two match in Cardiff.Raine tore the hosts’ middle order apart, taking four wickets for two runs in 17 deliveries after Colin Ingram, with a polished innings of 60, and opener Jacques Rudolph had put on 96 for third wicket.Raine dismissed Ingram, Chris Cooke, Craig Meschede and Mark Wallace, the last two for ducks, in quick succession to leave Glamorgan rocking on 105 for 6.It meant their lead was only 130, but yet again Graham Wagg, after his 200 and 94 in the last two innings, counter-attacked effectively and as the last three wickets piled up 139 with consummate ease it helped to rally Glamorgan to a second innings total of 298.Visitors Leicestershire closed the penultimate day on 75 for 3 and will go in search of the 249 more runs they need for victory on Thursday’s final day, while Glamorgan need seven more wickets to record their fourth successive championship win.Glamorgan captain Jacques Rudolph top-scored for the hosts with 74 after remaining at the crease for five and a half hours while Raine claimed a career-best 5 wickets for 43 runs in the innings.Rudolph was assisted by Ingram and latterly Wagg, with the tailenders chipping in at the end of the innings.Rudolph eventually fell when the score was on 207, bowled by Tom Wells, but Andrew Salter, with a career best 54 not out and Michael Hogan and Andy Carter, plundered 91 from the last 10 overs.Needing 324 to win from 126 overs, Leicestershire soon lost Angus Robson, who nicked at an outswinger from Meschede to Wallace. Shortly afterwards Wagg dismissed Ned Eckersley, who deflected the ball on to his stumps. There was further success for the home team when Hogan, in his second spell, trapped Mark Cosgrove lbw for 14 after the former Glamorgan batsman had found it difficult to adapt to the slow pitch.

Unadkat runs riot as Saurashtra complete Assam demoliton

Jaydev Unadkat’s second five-wicket haul that took his match tally to 11 scalps triggered Assam’s disintegration and facilitated Saurashtra’s first entry into the Ranji Trophy final in three seasons

The Report by Arun Venugopal in Vadodara15-Feb-2016

Jaydev Unadkat’s second five-wicket haul that took his match tally to 11 scalps triggered Assam’s disintegration and facilitated Saurashtra’s win that gave them their first entry into the final in three seasons. Assam, after bowling out Saurashtra for 353 shortly after lunch on Day 3, crashed out for 139 inside 40 overs. Saurashtra then wiped out the 21 runs required in just 3.1 overs.A familiar implosion – a fragile top order has undone much of Assam’s good work with the ball – ended their fine run this season, as Unadkat and Hardik Rathod spliced through the batting in the second session. Assam’s openers, Rahul Hazarika and Pallavkumar Das, briefly looked settled but some persistent hustling and sharp fielding produced the first wicket. After Pallavkumar jabbed at a length delivery that deflected off his pad, Avi Barot, at short leg, thrust out his left hand in a flash and plucked a fine reflex catch. Spurred by the early incentive, Unadkat cranked up his pace in the next over, and a tentative Hazarika, who was reprieved at slip, was unsure of whether he should leave or play at a delivery outside off stump, played on.Like in the first innings, Unadkat and Rathod were helping each other out by bowling tightly at their respective ends, without dropping off on pace. Rathod got his share of the spoils when Tarjinder Singh edged him to second slip.Assam were soon reduced to 46 for five as Unadkat and Rathod removed Amit Verma and captain Gokul Sharma in successive overs. Verma, Assam’s top-scorer in the first innings, blazed away to 16, all in boundaries, before Unadkat had him nicking behind. Sharma’s, though, was largely an unforced error, as he pushed at one wide outside off stump.KB Arun Karthik and J Syed Mohammad seemed best placed to build a partnership, especially as Unadkat and Rathod were given a breather, but yet another loose shot that curtailed such hopes. Arun Karthik cut a short delivery straight to point, and from that point the game appeared destined to end in a few hours.Syed resisted to ensure that Saurashtra batted again but it was only a minor consolation. In the morning, Assam’s seam-bowling pair of Krishna Das and Arup Das ensured that Saurashtra weren’t let off the hook as easily as they were on Sunday evening. They gave away only 14 runs in the first 10 overs of the day, and in the 11th Krishna’s ploy of going round the stumps was rewarded immediately. Cheteshwar Pujara pushed early at a delivery that seemed to approach him slower than he expected and the ball lobbed up for short cover to complete an easy take as he walked back for 126.When Krishna removed Unadkat, who chipped in with a handy 18-ball 14, the score was 288 for 7. Here is where Assam let the horse bolt with their now familiar shoddy catching. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja was dropped in successive overs – first at second slip and the then by the wicketkeeper Arun Karthik, both regulation chances. It allowed him to stick around first with Chirag Jani (43) and then Deepak Poonia (42*) as Saurashtra added 65 runs for the last three wickets, with Punia whacking Purkayastha for three consecutive sixes in an over.It eventually took Verma’s part-time leg breaks to end Saurashtra’s innings as Jadeja and Rathod were dismissed in the first over after lunch.Sanath Kumar, the Assam coach, rued his team’s lack of batting discipline, and admitted that conceding a first-innings lead of 119 runs had deflated them. “They [Assam’s batsmen] tried to play too many shots. There was no patience,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “If there was some batting discipline I think we could have scored 300 runs. It was a good wicket. The pitch started spinning also, and it could have been tough to chase on the fourth day. In the future if we want to do better we have to be more consistent with our batting. That’s an area we have to drastically improve. “Jaydev Shah, the Saurashtra captain, on the other hand, was pleased with the flexibility of his side. “We won our first three games on turners in Rajkot, but then our bowlers have done really well on seaming tracks. This win is a really good confidence booster.”

The future of the iconic Victorian gasholder outside The Oval in South London has been secured after the structure was granted Grade II listed status.Gasholder No.1, as it was known when it was first built in 1847, was the largest of its type in the world before being rebuilt between 1877 and 1879, just before The Oval hosted the first Test match in England in 1880.The wrought-iron structure was given protected status on account of its historical, architectural and technical background, as well as its importance to the landscape in the borough of Kennington.”We consider our industrial heritage very carefully, and must be rigorous when assessing these once ubiquitous, now redundant, holders for listing,” Emily Gee, head of designation at government heritage agency Historic England, told Surrey’s website.”It is unlikely that many more will be listed, but we are delighted that this special one is now listed at Grade II.””It’s impossible to imagine The Oval without being over looked by the gasholder,” said Surrey chairman, Richard Thompson. “Its presence in Kennington is almost the guardian of our history and, whatever its future may hold, it is great news that it will remain intact as our most famous neighbour.Heritage minister David Evennett added: “A lot of cricket fans will recognise this structure which provides an iconic backdrop to a world-famous cricket ground. It is also an important part of London’s Victorian history which is why I’m very pleased it will be protected for years to come.”In recent times, the gasholder has been used as a prominent advertising hoarding for major matches taking place at The Oval. A spokesman for English Heritage confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that the structure’s listed status would not prevent such use in the future.

Cooper, spinners push West Indies Women to maiden final

West Indies Women used their belligerence to defend 143 by six runs against New Zealand Women in Mumbai to book a place in their maiden final against Australia in Kolkata on Sunday

The Report by Shashank Kishore31-Mar-2016
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsBritney Cooper’s maiden T20I fifty lifted West Indies to 143, a score they defended by six runs•AFP

All along, batsmen have had to find innovative ways to keep the runs ticking. Scoops, paddles, dabs and strike rotation have been the key largely due to surfaces on offer. The first sign of a true surface and the belligerence of the batsmen came to the fore at the Wankhede Stadium in a high-scoring clash that West Indies Women won by six runs – their first semi-final victory – to set up a final date with Australia Women in Kolkata on Sunday. Like the men, New Zealand Women bowed out of the tournament after going through the group stages unscathed.West Indies, all swagger and substance, challenged the might of New Zealand’s spin trio of Morna Nielsen, Leigh Kasperek and Erin Bermingham to post an imposing 143 for 6. Sara McGlashan and Amy Satterthwaite then overcame slices of luck – they could have been run-out on a number of occasions during the course of their fourth-wicket stand of 59, but their dismissal in the space of four deliveries thwarted New Zealand’s designs. They eventually finished on 137 for 8 as West Indies broke their semi-final voodoo after three failed attempts.Britney Cooper was the principal destroyer for West Indies as she made a belligerent 48-ball 61. However, it was far from a one-woman show as Stafanie Taylor, the captain, and Deandra Dottin played their part in injecting momentum at various stages of the innings to somewhat cover up for the lack of big hits towards the end. While they managed just one four and two sixes in the last five overs, they still managed to eke out 43 valuable runs.New Zealand, who had stamped their authority over the rest of the field in the group stages, needed their accomplished top order to produce the best batting display of the tournament. Although Rachel Priest fell early, Sophie Devine came out all guns blazing, hitting four boundaries off her first six deliveries to bring the chase back on track. But some lackadaisical running coupled with Dottin’s rocket throw from point found her inches short of the crease. When Bates was pouched off a leading edge at mid-off four balls later, New Zealand slipped to 49 for 3 to throw the chase off track again.McGlashan then took the onus on her to keep the scoreboard ticking along, as she combined with Satterthwaite to eat into the target. Without taking any risks, the pair comfortably managed to churn an average of seven runs every over, even as they were helped by a West Indies unit that seemed to have switched off briefly. By bringing down the equation to 56 off the last six, the game was delicately poised. But by picking 13 off the following over, there seemed to be another twist that threw open possibilities of a last-over thriller. But Taylor’s double-strike in the 17th over to dismiss Sattherthwaite and McGlashan, both to Shemaine Campbelle at sweeper cover, subsided New Zealand’s challenge.Mathews provided the early spark as the game started off as an intriguing battle between New Zealand’s spinners and West Indies’ big-hitting batsmen. Nielsen, the left-arm spinner, gave Bates an early breakthrough by trapping Matthews plumb in front in the third over, but West Indies showed their depth when it mattered most.At the other end, the ball was pinging the middle of Taylor’s bat as she started her scoring with a back-foot punch for four, and followed that with a cut shot. Cooper, who came in at No. 3 in what was a surprise move, then unsettled Leigh Kasperek, the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, with two boundaries in her first over by stepping out and clearing the infield.New Zealand looked dangerous whenever their spinners had proved tough to negotiate. But on Thursday, when there wasn’t much turn or slowness off the surface, most of them, barring Nielsen, looked largely ineffective. Taylor’s mistimed slog against the run of play came as a breather for New Zealand, but Dottin marked her arrival with a whip over square leg for four to seamlessly switch momentum. Cooper’s dismissal in the 18th over could have cost West Indies 10 extra runs on another day, but Merissa Aguilleira’s cameo ensured West Indies kept going forward despite losing wickets. After finishing off well with the bat, Dottin was summoned to bowl the final over in which she had to defend 19, and she did like she had against India to close out the game in style.
