Although they couldn’t convert their half-centuries, James Vince and Mark Stoneman have probably done enough to feature in the home Tests against Pakistan

England’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere began with the Test match at the Gabba. Mark Stoneman and James Vince gave them an excellent platform with encouraging half-centuries, adding 125 together, before failing to go on. England never had a foothold in the Ashes after that.Fast forward five months and the match situation is somewhat better – they lead by 231 runs and are well placed to push for a series-levelling victory and have something to show for their efforts with the pink and red ball. But for Stoneman and Vince, there is a feeling of deja vu. Half-centuries apiece, a stand of 123, the promise of more, but frustrating dismissals.

New Zealand wicketkeeper BJ Watling is hopeful a Christchurch pitch losing some of its life will keep them in with a chance of saving – or even winning – the second Test and with it taking the series.
The second new ball is 14 overs away and represents New Zealand’s last chance of having a realistic target to chase, but the bounce and carry evident for the quicks over the first half of the day has lessened.
“It’s definitely a lot flatter than over the first few days,” Watling said. “It doesn’t look like it’s breaking up at all, it actually looks like it’s getting a bit deader. I don’t think it will do a hell of a lot on the final day so we just need to get ourselves into a position to hopefully win the game.”

Since Trevor Bayliss took over in 2015, there has been one century from the opener who isn’t Alastair Cook (and his form is heading south) or the No. 3 who isn’t Joe Root – Keaton Jennings’ 112 on debut against India (Adam Lyth’s hundred against New Zealand came while Paul Farbrace was in temporary charge).There are alternative names who will be mentioned in the lead-up to the next series, against Pakistan in May, and a strong start to the domestic season could attract interest despite England Lions being beaten 3-0 by West Indies in the four-day matches. Liam Livingstone has been on this tour – he is not someone for the top three but the batting order is also far from settled – while the likes of Haseeb Hameed, Joe Clarke, Dan Lawrence and Nick Gubbins will be touted. Recently capped players such as Jennings and Tom Westley could also restate their credentials.However, both incumbents have probably done enough to mean they will start against Pakistan, but England will leave this tour without really having a clearer picture about the best way forward for their top order.”They are in the side so they are in charge of their destiny every time they walk to the crease so the more experience they gain they are in a position to go to that next level,” Thorpe said. “Ultimately it’s up to them to take that next step and go towards three figures.”There are areas of the Test side where we aren’t going to say everyone is guaranteed places. We are hoping a few of them are close to that with the Tests they are starting to play.”England arrived in Australia with a batting line-up in a state of flux and will leave New Zealand in the same position. The attacks of Pakistan and India await. They will sense vulnerability.

O CAMPO É DO BOTAFOGO
O panorama do que seria o primeiro tempo ficou claro desde os primeiros minutos da partida: um Goiás postado na defesa, com os onze jogadores atrás do círculo central e o Botafogo assumindo a posse de bola e tentando assumir o protagonismo das ações da partida.

UM MURO CHAMADO TADEU!
O Botafogo teve mais de 65% de posse de bola em praticamente todo o primeiro tempo. O desafio foi furar o bloqueio criado pela equipe esmeraldina, que defendia-se com cinco jogadores à frente da área.

Nas raras oportunidades que o Botafogo passou por essa muralha, encontrou outro obstáculo para balançar as redes: Tadeu. Em uma jogada, o goleiro parou uma cabeçada de Pedro Raul com uma intervenção espetacular. Em outra, defendeu uma finalização de média distância de Rhuan com uma defesa de mão trocada. O camisa 1 foi o responsável pelo primeiro tempo sem gols.

JOGO AGITADO
O Goiás voltou para o segundo tempo com Douglas Baggio no lugar de Daniel Bessa. A entrada de um atacante fez o Esmeraldino abandonar a ideia de ficar apenas no campo defensivo. No primeiro minuto da etapa complementar, inclusive, Diego Cavalieri teve que fazer uma boa defesa em finalização de Vinícius Lopes.

Tadeu, contudo, não ficou devendo. O goleiro do Goiás voltou a aparecer com destaque. Em contra-ataque, Honda puxou a bola da defesa até a intermediária, finalizou e o chute parou nas mãos do camisa 1.

ÍMPETO CAI
Mudanças e mais mudanças, o Botafogo aos poucos foi perdendo a identidade em campo. No fim da partida, já era uma equipe bagunçada que buscava chegar ao gol da maneira que fosse. Para o Goiás, Douglas Baggio era a principal válvula de escape, mas ele não contava com muita companhia no setor ofensivo.

A parte física das duas equipes falou alto e o segundo tempo caiu a partir dos 30 minutos. O Botafogo empatou pela décima vez no Campeonato Brasileiro e o Goiás continuou na última posição da competição. Ninguém saiu feliz.​

وواصل: “الجميع يطالب بجدول للدوري من أول أسبوع حتى أخر جولة، صعب جدًا أن يوجد في مصر هذا الأمر، بسبب المشاركات الكثيرة جدًا للأندية، الوضع مختلف في الدوري المصري.

وأكمل: “يوجد مطالب مشروعة، الزمالك كان له مباريات مؤجلة، ولكن أنت ليس مثل النادي الأهلي لأنك لم تشارك في بطولات مثل الذي شارك الأهلي فيها، كل واحد يقول الذي يريده، لا أعتقد الأمور ستسير كما يريد الزمالك”.

ماذا لو أصر الزمالك على قراره وما هو موقف رابطة الأندية؟ “نحن في دولة ويوجد نظام كما تحكمنا لائحة نسير عليها وتحكم الأمور التنظيمية في بطولة الدوري، وشروط المؤجلات لم يكن فيها مجاملة لأي نادي، فليس من حقك أنك تطلب شيء وافقت عليه،  طول عمرنا نعمل بهذا الشكل ولم نبتدع شيء جديد، في النهاية تحكمنا لائحة ويوجد رئيس لجنة المسابقات والقرار سيسير على الأندية، ويوجد مسابقة على وشك الأنتهاء منها”.

وأشار: “سنعلن عن المباريات المؤجلة من بطولة الدوري الأسبوع المقبل”.

واختتم: “الأفضل لإدارة لجنة الحكام حكم مصري وما زالت مصر على ذلك، مع كل الأحترام لرئيس لجنة الحكام الأجنبي المتواجد حاليًا، لدينا أسماء تستعان بها في دول العالم كله، من أفضل الحكام في العالم كانوا متواجدين، رئيس لجنة الحكام الأجنبي لا يعرف طبع المصري، الموسم قارب على الانتهاء ووضع طبيعي يكون فيه انتقادات، ولكن نمتلك أفضل حكام في إفريقيا ووارد حكم لا يوفق”.

Taskin too misses out for taking 20 wickets in all three formats combined, at 65.50 bowling average.An eye condition kept Mosaddek out for most of 2017 although his dogged innings against Sri Lanka in Chittagong back in January this year seemingly saved Bangladesh from a Test defeat, but he was axed from the squad altogether. Rabbi played three Tests last year while Sabbir was stripped off his 2017 contract in January this year after he was found guilty of beating up a kid during a domestic first-class match.

According to Fabrizio Romano, reporting on Saturday afternoon, Liverpool are set to hold talks with Napoli next week over the sale of Darwin Nunez. The Italian club reportedly see the forward as their dream target and are now looking to learn more about the details of a potential move.

The sale of the struggling forward could be good news for those in Merseyside, who have reportedly already contacted Hugo Ekitike over a deal to replace Nunez this summer.

When speaking about the Frenchman, Romano recently told the Market Madness Podcast: “Well, I think for Ekitike this could be a possibility to go to Liverpool, because there were calls from Chelsea two weeks ago. A equipe começou o jogo pressionada e quase levou um gol antes de um minuto, com Edenílson.Porém, com o passar do tempo, o time foi se acertando e conseguiu encaixar a marcação, deixando a bola com o Inter e apostando na transição rápida ao ataque. Em uma dessas transições, Cazares fez uma linda jogada e cruzou para Davó bater de primeira e marcar uma ‘travessura’ contra o Colorado.

Era notória a agressividade dos jogadores do Corinthians, que não desistiam de nenhuma bola e não deixavam espaços para o ataque do rival, ao contrário da partida contra o Flamengo e o segundo tempo diante do América-MG, por exemplo. Xavier, Gil e Marllon tiveram atuações quase perfeitas, não deixando Edenílson, Patrick e principalmente Thiago Galhardo, jogarem.

– Esse jogo tem que ser e deve ser um divisor de águas. Não podemos aceitar o jogo do Corinthians como contra América-MG. Não foi um jogo terrível, tivemos oportunidades e volume, mas o que o torcedor quer ver é o que viu hoje. Isso foi passado aos atletas. Tivemos uma conversa verdadeira de muita cobrança. Faço isso com costume. Às vezes tem de botar dedo na ferida e falar verdade. Sempre vou falar – falou o técnico Vagner Mancini, que tem cinco partidas no Corinthians, com três vitórias e duas derrotas.

Já no ataque, valem elogios a Ramiro e Cazares, que levavam perigo pelas pontas e ajudavam na recomposição defensiva. O colombiano, inclusive, fez a jogada do gol corintiano e demonstrou estar a fim de jogo durante o tempo que ficou em campo. Já o volante demostrou raça e foi valente em todas as jogadas, mas acabou levando cartão amarelo.

Porém, nem tudo são flores. Apesar da vitória, vale a ressalva no erro de Luan em chance clara no final da partida, o que, claramente, mostra a falta de confiança do camisa sete. E também, a ausência de troca de passes da equipe, que preferiu abdicar da bola em alguns momentos.

No fim das contas, uma vitória em cima do então líder do Brasileirão que pode servir para o Corinthians ganhar confiança e almejar coisas maiores no ano.

But inside the County Ground, Hildreth glides Fidel Edwards between gully and slips and down to the boundary. He is making a century and changing this game.On Sunday morning the papers will note Hildreth’s unbeaten 125 and his 133-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Craig Overton. That stand all but broke Hampshire’s attack and it took Somerset into a lead which had been extended to 93 by the close of a day from which 17 overs were trimmed by bad light. Overton’s dismissal when he played on to Gareth Berg for a rather cultured 80 did not end the suffering for James Vince’s players. Jack Leach was also batting capably when the players finally went off.Those papers will also make something of the absence of Kyle Abbott, who turned an ankle in the third over of Somerset’s innings and could not bowl for over three hours. And they may make much of Edwards’ dropped catch at midwicket which would have ended Hildreth’s innings when he had only 24 and Somerset were 71 for 4. Both points will be valid but the folk enjoying their caramel lattes in Coffee#1 will recall the ease of Hildreth’s square drives, the gentle tempo of his innings and all the pleasure it gave them.Taunton’s cricket ground, which is now squeezed between flats and offices, is woven tight into the life of the town. Hildreth moved into the nineties with the sweetest of clips through midwicket off Abbott and reached his century with a cut to the boundary off Berg. He had faced 138 balls and hit 13 fours in getting to his 41st first-class hundred for Somerset. But they still call him Hildy in The Ring of Bells.And centuries are often made glorious by the circumstances of their making. Somerset were 40 for 2 when Hildreth walked out to bat. They had lost Eddie Byrom, bowled by Edwards for 10, and George Bartlett, caught at slip off Brad Wheal for 1. The prize wicket, though, was that of Matt Renshaw, who had looked in the mood to reduce another county attack to weeping impotence. His flick through midwicket had carried the mark of Zorro; his uppercut for six off Wheal had been daring theatre. But having been dropped by a diving McManus and also survived a drum-splitting lbw shout from Edwards, Renshaw was eventually squared up by Berg and caught by Jimmy Adams at second slip when looking to play to leg. Seven balls later local gloom deepened when Tom Abell hooked his first ball to Edwards at long leg, thus giving Berg the second of his four wickets. Hildreth strolled around the pitch like a farmer inspecting his land.Something approaching calm was restored in the hour after lunch. Steven Davies and Hildreth put on 60 before the Somerset wicketkeeper was forced to retire when hit on the ankle. Lewis Gregory lasted seven balls but Overton marched out and announced his arrival with a blunderbuss off-drive to a ball from Wheal. One of Instow’s finest settled in and took his cue from Hildreth.And now we are deep in the evening session. The sun has bustled its way through tissues of cloud, prompting Jeff Evans and Jeremy Lloyds to summon the cricketers out again. The outfield carries shades of the afternoon’s magic. But we face only 11 balls before play is called off on this day when Hildreth made Somerset’s sixth hundred of this barely adolescent season. A year ago most of the top order had difficulty reaching double figures but victory in this game may take the county to the top of the table.Spectators drift away hardly daring to dream. It is over eight hours since the gates opened and they streamed to their favoured spots in the Marcus Trescothick Stand and the Colin Atkinson Pavilion. For the first Championship match against Worcestershire they were queuing at 8.30am and the club played the “William Tell Overture” as the members hurried to their coveted places. All for a game “nobody watches”; all for people like Hildy and days like this.
