Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsColin Munro’s third 50-plus score of CPL 2016 ensured Trinbago Knight Riders chased down 173 with ease on Saturday as they defeated Barbados Tridents with 14 balls to spare at the Kensington Oval. Munro’s 68 off just 39 balls moved him to second place on the run charts in the tournament with 258 runs in six innings, just 24 behind team-mate Hashim Amla. The pair produced a 107-run stand across 10.1 overs for the second wicket and by the time Amla fell in the 15th over, Knight Riders needed just 37 runs off 34 balls with eight wickets in hand. Amla only hit one four in his 31 off 34 balls as Munro did most of the damage. Munro brought up his fifty in 27 balls in the 12th over and few bowlers were spared from his fury with Navin Stewart taking the brunt of it, including two sixes as part of a 16-run 14th over.Munro eventually fell to Ravi Rampaul, caught near the long-on boundary by AB de Villiers, but Dwayne Bravo struck the next two balls for a four and a six before doing the same in the 17th over to Parnell, dashing any hopes Tridents had of a late turnaround. Knight Riders needed two runs off the last three overs and Bravo hit the winning run to finish on 23 off 11 balls.Bravo had earlier played a key role in the field, taking 2 for 34 including the wicket of Tridents’ top-scorer Shoaib Malik for 47, as their late surge was stifled despite wickets in hand. Tridents had scored 26 off the previous two overs when Bravo came back to bowl his last over in the 19th and crucially snared the dangerous Nicholas Pooran for a golden duck as part of a seven-run over. Kieron Pollard finished unbeaten on 41 off 20, with three fours and as many sixes, and de Villiers scored a 32-ball 45, sharing crucial stands with Malik and Pollard but in the end they were not enough for Tridents, who now sit in fourth place with five points from five games.

Spurs Make Contact With ‘Perfect’ 4-3-3 Manager

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an approach for out-of-work boss Luis Enrique, with the former Spain head coach among the candidates to fill the managerial void in north London.

What's the latest on Enrique to Spurs?

According to the Telegraph, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has already 'made contact' with the 53-year-old regarding the prospect of taking charge next season, with a successor to former boss Antonio Conte yet to be named with the end of the season fast approaching.

The report suggests that despite those talks with the Spaniard, however, there has been no update regarding any 'significant progress', with the Lilywhites also looking at Feyenoord tactician, Arne Slot.

In the case of Enrique, there have been previous claims that the Gijon-native – who left his post with La Roja following the World Cup in Qatar – could well help to tempt Tottenham talisman Harry Kane to stay put at N17.

Would Luis Enrique be a good appointment for Spurs?

The north London outfit only recently suffered a blow after reported target Xabi Alonso revealed his desire to stay put at current side, Bayer Leverkusen, with the 41-year-old having been hailed as a "forward-thinking" manager who could well have brought "fresh ideas" to the club, as per journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Moving for Alonso's compatriot in the form of Enrique could well prove something of an upgrade, however, with the latter man arguably a far more successful and experienced coach.

Lauded as the "perfect" manager by former Barcelona teammate, Pep Guardiola in the past, the one-time Celta Vigo and Roma boss has proven himself capable of claiming silverware throughout his managerial career to date, memorably winning the treble back in 2015 during his time at Camp Nou.

Luis Enrique

That stunning 2014/15 campaign ultimately saw the 4-3-3 boss named as FIFA World Coach of the Year, with it likely to prove a real coup if Spurs can tempt such a high-profile figure to join them this summer.

That wealth of winning experience is in stark contrast to that of Alonso, with the exciting, up-and-coming coach having managed just over 30 games at senior level to date, after taking charge of the Bundesliga outfit in October.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder certainly has "all the conditions to be a very good coach" – according to Jose Mourinho – although Tottenham may be craving a more ready-made figure, like Enrique, who can make an impact immediately.

As ex-Anfield star Luis Garcia stated earlier this year, Enrique "has got everything to be a success" in north London, with the 44-year-old going on to state that:

“He’s got that energy, he’s got that attitude. He’s ready to fight, I think he’s got the experience to build something very unique there at Tottenham so he could be a fantastic choice."

As such, while it may have been frustrating to see Alonso snub the chance of a return to England, Enrique would certainly be a fine alternative and upgrade for Levy.

Chelsea Make Transfer Offer For £216k-p/w 23-y/o Star

Chelsea have made an offer for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic ahead of the summer transfer window, journalist Julien Laurens has revealed.

What's the latest on Vlahovic and Chelsea?

The forward has previously been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and with Chelsea in need of a striker this summer, it seems that they have targeted the 23-year-old for a potential transfer.

The Serbian earns £216k per week at Juventus, and it may be an expensive deal for the striker, who has scored ten league goals this season.

A potential move could also confirm that Romelu Lukaku's future lies away from Stamford Bridge. The Belgian is on loan at Inter Milan, with it unclear whether he could be offered a fresh start in West London under incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking on The Byline Podcast, Laurens revealed that an offer has already been made for Vlahovic, with Chelsea seemingly keen on getting their business done early.

"I was told today like by someone that Chelsea are in for Vlahovic, Chelsea have made an offer already for Vlahovic, and I think he's maybe better technically than Lukaku, but he is still really a goalscorer," he stated.

"There is not much of an all-round game about him like you can see with Harry Kane, that by the way, Pochettino made him what he is now, like a number nine and a number 10. That might have changed, and he might just want a proper number nine in Vlahovic, who I think will do that very well.

"The fact that Chelsea are in for Vlahovic shows that they're not counting on Lukaku, I think Lukaku will go back to Inter eventually on loan, and then Pochettino will be able to get a striker that he wants to work with more, if that's Vlahovic then fair enough."

Should Chelsea buy Vlahovic?

Juventus attacker Dusan Vlahovic.

The 23-year-old presents a much younger option than if Lukaku was to return, but it is arguable that he does not represent an upgrade on the Belgian.

Lukaku has a higher scoring rate, significantly better passing and dribbling statistics, and is more dominant in the air than Vlahovic as per FBref. He has scored just two goals less than the Serbian in 400 less minutes in Serie A, and has also helped Inter reach the Champions League final whilst Juventus continue to struggle.

Given that Vlahovic joined Juventus for a hefty fee of around £66m, it may take a large fee to convince the Old Lady to part ways with their striker, and he may need some convincing to join, with Chelsea not competing in any European competition next season.

Unless a big offer arrives for Lukaku which could see them effectively swap the strikers for a similar fee, a move for Vlahovic may not be the solution to Chelsea's problems this summer.

Zimbabwe have waited too long for Tests – Ntini

Despite Zimbabwe’s gap of nearly 20 months between Test matches, the side’s interim coach Makhaya Ntini was confident his side are ready for New Zealand

Firdose Moonda in Bulawayo27-Jul-2016

Makhaya Ntini has encouraged Zimbabwe’s players to express themselves freely, according to the side’s captain Graeme Cremer•Associated Press

While New Zealand have spent the last two weeks practising patience in anticipation of slow, low conditions in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe cannot wait to get started. They have waited 20 months to play a Test match since visiting Bangladesh at the end of 2014. They have not hosted a Test in almost two years and have not held one in Bulawayo in five. To say they are eager would be an understatement.”My boys are ready,” Makhaya Ntini, Zimbabwe’s interim head coach said. “I say that because they have been waiting for too long to play Test cricket. This country is a Test country and we don’t have enough of those. They have been waiting for too long to show how hungry they are.”In preparation, Zimbabwe’s A side had two matches against South Africa A, the hosts lost the second one, and one against the touring New Zealanders, who also defeated them. Their on-field losses were magnified by the personnel problems due to injuries, which have effectively left an inexperienced attack.Tinashe Panyangara and Tendai Chatara’s injuries have left Zimbabwe’s squad with four other quicks who have two Tests between them. Njabulo Ncube’s came five years ago, against New Zealand, and Donald Tiripano’s against South Africa in August 2014. Taurai Muzarabani and Michael Chinouya are uncapped but have played 61 and 65 first-class matches respectively.Despite the new faces in his pace pack, Ntini insisted he was “not nervous” about how they will fare against batsmen like Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. “Me? No, I am not nervous. It’s them that are going on the field. For me, it’s just to motivate them, to show them the way and make them believe. If they get selected, it is a very good chance to show what they are capable of,” Ntini said. “We are bringing new things in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has been one of the countries that has been neglected for quite some time. If they get an opportunity, they will utilise it to their full potential.”Among the new things is the freedom to express themselves, something Zimbabwean players have previously steered away from as former coach Alan Butcher wrote in his book , an account of his time in charge. Ntini’s boisterous personality, and famously booming voice, has encouraged everyone around him to follow suit, tell some jokes and just generally have a little more fun.”It’s been good for us to have Makhaya. We were set in our ways for a long time where we didn’t express ourselves. Makhaya, with the way he is, has brought out a few characters in the team which can only be good for us,” Graeme Cremer, Zimbabwe’s newly appointed captain said.Cremer is hopeful that new attitudes will mean his team can make the mental shifts they need to compete in the longest format on a surface that will test the batsmen initially. “We’re a bit short on game time and we need to make a mindset change, from the white ball to the red ball,” he said. “Bulawayo will be a good batting wicket. Once you get in, you can score a lot of runs but it also a wicket where sometimes it is hard to get in. That first 18 balls you’re not sure on the wicket, because it is probably a bit slower than normal.”Cremer’s opposite number Williamson will also lead his team out for the first time but has “not thought a huge amount” about the feelings that may stir up. Instead, Williamson has been consumed by tactical preparation for unfamiliar conditions. conditions. His focus has been on finding different ways to be aggressive on a surface that could lend itself to letting the game drift.”There may not be a huge amount of pace and bounce, so the word ‘attacking’ [could mean something different]. We would like to attack and we’ll certainly try to with bat and ball but at the same time, patience, and how you look to skin it, is the challenge,” Williamson said. “How attacking looks on some of these surfaces, it may not be four slips and two gullies because there might be no point in doing that. It might be looking at how you want to target different areas, where you want to limit scoring. And then if you have an opportunity and you take that wicket, certainly you go all out and try and get another couple. But we know it doesn’t happen too quickly on these sorts of surfaces.”For Zimbabwe, nothing has happened too quickly in Test-cricket terms for several years. They have long periods of inaction between short series and there is not much they can do to change that although Ntini does have a vision for how they can ensure higher-profile games in other formats. “Every player hates being part of a country that needs to qualify for a bigger stage. My vision is that between now and 2019, Zimbabwe are not in a position to play qualifiers before they play in the bigger set-up,” he said.Ntini was referring to Zimbabwe’s failure to quality for the main draw of the last World T20 tournaments, and their low ODI ranking which ruled them out of the Champions Trophy. However, should a two-division Test league come to pass, they will also find themselves in the bottom tier and Ntini wants to put them in a position to challenge that, something he knows will take more time than a two-match series against New Zealand. So for now, he just wants them to enjoy something they have waited a long time for.

Wolves Keen On Snapping Up £106k-A-Week Attacker

Wolves are thought to be interested in signing Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz on a free transfer this summer, according to a new update.

Is Diaz set to leave Real Madrid?

The 29-year-old has spent two different spells with the La Liga giants and reigning Champions League holders since 2016, initially graduating from the B team, and then rejoining the club after one year with Ligue 1 side Lyon. He has always been limited to a bit-part role, however, given some of the world-class attacking talent on show at the Santiago Bernabeu, from Vinicius Jr to Karim Benzema, among many others.

Diaz has still racked up 84 appearances for Madrid, though, which is no mean feat, and he has chipped in with 12 goals and three assists in that time. The £106,000-a-week attacker's current deal expires at the end of this season and it looks almost certain that he will move on to pastures new at that point, in order to be a regular elsewhere.

With Wolves likely to be looking at bringing in new signings in the attacking third this summer, it looks as though the Madrid could be a potential option to strengthen Julen Lopetegui's team.

Are Wolves interested in signing Diaz?

According to Mundo Deportivo [via Sport Witness], Wanderers have "appeared" as potential suitors to sign Diaz in the summer window, with Lopetegui knowing the player well from his stint as Madrid boss in 2018.

It is stated that the Wolves boss could "meet again" with his former player, with a free transfer in the offing. The one-cap Dominican Republic international is set to make a decision over his future soon.

Diaz could be an intriguing signing by Wanderers at the end of the campaign, with his pedigree undeniable, considering he has represented Europe's most successful club for a number of years now. He is now a two-time Champions League winner, not to mention also winning three La Liga titles, among numerous other trophies in his career.

The fact that Wolves would be able to sign him for free makes the transfer far less of a risk, too, should the move not work out, even though he could demand high wages. Wolves have been too goal-shy throughout this season, only scoring 31 times in 37 Premier League games in 2022/23 to date, with Daniel Podence and Ruben Neves the joint-top scorers in the division with just six goals apiece.

Jordan maiden century takes contest by the scruff

Chris Jordan scored a maiden first-class century to steer Sussex from choppy waters (a collapse of 6 for 49) to a handsome lead of 90

At some stage around 11.15 on the second morning, Chris Jordan ambled over – as Chris Jordan does – located the scruff of this game’s neck and promptly grabbed it. He has not let go since, picking up the final four first-innings wickets in double-quick time, then scoring a maiden first-class century to steer Sussex from choppy waters (a collapse of 6 for 49) to a handsome lead of 90.When Essex batted for a second time, Nick Browne turned Jordan’s fourth ball straight to square leg, and he summoned the last of his seemingly boundless energy to end a dangerously pesky third-wicket stand, with Dan Lawrence trapped in front. Even his withdrawal from the attack had a touch of class, as Tom Westley feathered his replacement David Wiese behind first ball. He will return on Sunday, rested and raring for Essex’s final six wickets. If he can find those wickets, Sussex – even as the old lags Ryan ten Doeschate and James Foster shared a streaky but vital 52 late on, extending Essex’s lead to 73 – have the chance to kickstart a curious season that sees them unbeaten after nine games having won just one. As long as Leicestershire fail to beat Derbyshire, Essex need a draw to go back past the new leaders Kent. The chase for the single promotion spot is set to be a barnburner, and this – a fine match on a fair, fast-scoring pitch – is crucial for both sides.Jordan’s was a magnificent, measured innings that eked every run out of Sussex’s tail. In Jofra Archer and Danny Briggs, Jordan found a pair of able deputies, sharing 140, then 92, and still he found 43 thereafter. When the more extravagant Archer fell early for a superb 73, caught behind off David Masters, Jordan simply regrouped, stuck his head down and strolled along, adding a patient 40 – the last four of which came from a delicate sweep off Ashar Zaidi – to his overnight 59 to sit tantalisingly short of his maiden century as he settled down for lunch. Was he nervous? Was he heck. Nerves, it’s fair to say, are not Jordan’s bag; angsty sorts do not death bowlers make. “I wasn’t too worried!” he laughed, “I just had to keep a level head and if it was meant to be it would be… I knew that if I kept doing what I’d been doing I’d get there in the end, although it ended up being a bit streaky!” Streaky it was, as he inside-edged the fourth delivery of the first over, his 164th, after the break to fine leg to move to 103. “Ah, it would have been nice to bring it up in style but that wasn’t meant to be. I’d worked hard to get to that stage, so maybe I deserved a bit of luck!”He had, as that was his first false stroke. Graham Napier, who took the wicket of Briggs for a composed and fun-filled 49 an over later (before mopping up the rest to finish with five wickets), noted that Jordan “played like a man who has scored 100 hundreds,” not just one.The innings’ tempo was the key, as Jordan allowed those he trusted – particularly Archer, but also Briggs (who drove beautifully having joined him still 45 behind) – to play their strokes, before accelerating himself. There were two extremely handsome sixes, straight and over extra cover – when joined by the injured Harry Finch and limited Steve Magoffin. His strokeplay in front and behind point stood out, but so did his ability to find a single; vitally, Jordan tired Essex out. When he finally fell, carting to cow corner, a clinic in revitalising a lame and tame tail came to an end. “I’m pretty happy with the tempo that I batted at,” Jordan reflected, “I came in when we were in a bit of trouble but I took one ball at a time, trying to build partnerships with anyone who was out there with me. Credit to Jofra and Briggs who put on key partnerships with me.”At one stage, when Wiese prized out Westley, who lost his trademark fluency after an attractive start, it appeared Jordan’s efforts would be rewarded with a day off on Sunday. But thanks to ten Doeschate and Foster, back Essex will charge. Ten Doeschate, particularly, played within himself, weathering a barrage of bouncers – and verbals, some of which were returned, with interest (and interest from the umpires) – from Archer, who had earlier dismissed Jaik Mickleburgh lbw.Jordan felt the pitch so free-scoring that Sussex would chance their arm to chase upwards of 200, but Napier knew Essex required – especially after their lanky-looking tail was so easily cleaned up on Friday morning – more of the same from ten Doeschate and Foster. “We’re going to have to bat out most of the day tomorrow,” he said bullishly, ahead of his final day on his home ground. “We cannot give them anything in the first session.”

Chelsea Still Keen On Signing £215k-A-Week Attacker

Chelsea target Dusan Vlahovic "could definitely leave" Juventus during the summer transfer window, according to an update from journalist Ben Jacobs.

Is Vlahovic excelling at Juve?

The Blues are on the lookout for a new striker in the next few months, with that area of the pitch proving to be an issue this season. Kai Havertz has often led the line, but is arguably happier in a deeper role, and he topped the west Londoners' Premier League scoring charts with just seven goals.

For that reason, an elite centre forward is needed, in order to make Chelsea more potent in the final third, and Vlahovic has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the recent past. The £215,000-a-week striker scored 10 goals in 22 Serie A starts this season, and while it hasn't been the most productive campaign of his career, he is still a highly thought of young player.

His current Juve deals expires in the summer of 2026, but a fresh update suggests that he could well be on the move long before then.

Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic

Could Chelsea sign Vlahovic this summer?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs handed Chelsea a boost, saying that Vlahovic could "definitely" leave his current club for a new challenge this summer:

"I think Chelsea want a traditional number nine and they urgently need goals. Dusan Vlahovic is one player they've tracked for quite some time. The possibility that Vlahovic will leave Juventus hasn't become apparent after the points deduction. It's really been the case for all of 2023, and many suitors feel that there is a real possibility to get Vlahovic at value because he's just not as happy as he was at Fiorentina playing under Max Allegri.

"When you add the fact that Juve, with the points deduction, are not looking likely to get Champions League football, suddenly there is that possibility that somebody could come in. Obviously, we also have to wait and see what the other implications are from the cases against Juventus because there may be more things that impact the football club and their finances. Vlahovic could definitely move somewhere this summer."

Vlahovic could be a brilliant option for Chelsea ahead of next season, having been described as an "extraordinary" player by former Juve midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi in the past.

At 23, he is still a young player who could be a long-term addition, and his tally of 61 goals in 140 appearances in Serie A, as well as 13 in 21 caps for Serbia, speaks volumes about how prolific he can be.

The fact that Juve could be willing to sell is also a clear bonus, so if Mauricio Pochettino likes the look of him, and sees him as a strong and younger alternative to the likes of Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane, the Blues should acquire his signature and make him the focal point of their attack.
